Any thoughts on the weight of the motor being supported by the flywheel and balancer?

I am a little worried about crushing the oil pan flange if I go the "box" route.

I don't want to take the oil pan off; the motor mounts are no longer on the motor, so, I can't use them.

The best thing to do is make your box so it rests on the tops of the bolts. Those... aren't going anywhere.

That being said, these engines are damned near bulletproof in their construction. I've set them down any which way and not hurt things. I have dented the valve covers by lifting with a chain across them mounted to the exhaust manifold bolts, but even those weren't big dents.
