Can I tow it??? 13k lbs

Just bought an 02 7.3 excursion 2wd. I'm willing to upgrade what ever necessary, even willing to rebuild tranny stronger if and when I kill it. But I buy and sell crown vics. 4100 lbs each. Found a hitch pull two car trailer 34 long and 4900 lbs. So say 13k. I would be only person in truck. Much appreciated the experience on here. If I still had my 3500 dodge dually I would not need to ask. But trying to still work and have family vehicle wife and 4 kids.

I'm not an expert, but I would say that your biggest problem is going to be stopping that load, not getting it started.
Make sure the trailer has good brakes, and that you have your Trailer Brake controller set up properly.
Seems like you'll have a huge amount of tongue weight with that setup too, might have an unreasonable amount of sag.

Do you have to run maximum load on the trailer? What's the hitch rating on your tow vehicle? I doubt it is 13K.

I just checked the 2002 Ford towing guide. There is no combination of options that would make a 2002 Excursion tow a trailer over 11k lbs legally.

So, CAN you do it? I am sure with the right modifications you COULD.

SHOULD you do it? No.

You would at a min need 10 ply e-rated LT tires, bigger receiver hitch. Tranny cooler and guage.

I would rather have a truck for this purpose.

IMO.. That trailer has the axles so far back that you will have a HUGE amount of tongue weight on your excursion's hitch. Go to a truck scale and:

* Weigh the excursion (w/o trailers connected)
* Weigh the FRONT axle of the excursion (w/trailer connected - but the trailer NOT on the scale)
* Weight the Excursion (Both axles on scale - w/trailer connected - but trailer axles NOT on the scale)
* Weight the Excursion and trailer (hitched together)

You can then calculate the amount of weight on the rear axle of the Ex and with a WD hitch the amount of total trailer weight shifted onto the Ex.

It also sounds like you'll look "commercial" and have additional issues/restrictions should you get stopped to be aware of.

Put a weight distributing hitch on the trailer and just use the weight distributing part when loaded and you might possibly be able to.... People pull some big campers with the Excursion with the correct hitch set up.

when i go camping i see people pull big campers all the time but some times they need a larger ride to be safe especially if you get in a high wind area.when i get above 10-12k when i tow i switch to my dually and you can tell a big difference as far as stability, yes both my f250s will pull 12k fine but a dually makes it nice and safe

What's the GVWR of the trailer? Maybe you have too much weight tied up in the trailer. 8200lbs is not that much to carry. The ones that just have tire rails probably weigh less. That one probably puts you into CDL-land as well.

Apparently...... a two car bumper pull trailer can be done with an Excursion.

Saves rubber on those front wheels that way.
