I can't tell you how to get the latch to release but these pictures show what is causing the door to jam. I had an awful time getting the door to release so I could get at the problem. The door jams because it isn't pulled into its proper position while you're trying to close it.

Hope these pictures help.

This picture shows the leading edge of the sliding door center support and you can see it starting to crack.
When it breaks completely the door will jam as you try to close it.

This picture shows the fix I did to hold the sliding door center support in place after it broke completely in two.

the problem can also be the Latch assembly mechanism that got stuck in the locked position.

you might try kicking the door from the inside at the rear pivot point, (not at the front of the sliding door where the pull-handle is located, but at the rear where the latch is).

After some gentle adjustments with a size 10 wrench got the door open.Made adjustments to the striker and the door to compensate for sag, sprayed lube in lock assembly and all is well. Thanks to all

One problem I encountered was with the latch mechanism sticking. I had to take the panel off to lube it:
