68 F100 ring gear replacement
Newbie here. I've been reading around here trying to learn as much as I can ever since I picked up my Grandpa's old truck a week ago. It needs a new ring gear on the flywheel. I'm just looking for some info on removing the trans. Maybe a quasi step by step or at least the major steps. It's got the 360 and a t18 and the truck's a two wheel drive.

After safely supporting the truck, drain the transmission to keep the mess down.
Unbolt the driveshaft, disconnect shift linkage, remove dust pan from bellhousing. unbolt transmission mount to crossmember, use a jack to raise the transmission, unbolt the crossmember to frame and slide it back, let the jack down. With a transmission jack or some help unbolt and remove the transmission. Remove the throw out bearing from the clutch fork, remove the 6 clutch pressure plate bolts and lower the clutch. Remove the 6 flywheel bolts and remove same. The ring gear can be removed with a brass punch. Heat the new ring gear and drop it on the flywheel. The new clutch kit should also have a new throw out bearing with a alining tool, also try to get the flywheel resurfaced. You will want to replace the starter drive or the starter. Reverse the process. Hope this helps.
