1954 f600 Dump Truck Parts Sources
Hey all,
I am the new owner of a 1954 F600 Dump Truck. It obviously needs some work so I am now on the quest to find parts which is proving to be difficult on my own. I have come here seeking advice from the experts on where to get certain things.
My main need right now is brake parts. It appears that pretty much all of the wheel cylinders are either leaking or are seized up. Where is the best place to get wheel cylinders for this thing. By the way, I have a shop manual on order so you may have some questions that I cannot answer.

This is one good source.
Chucks Trucks LLC., Ford Truck Parts and Restoration, Chuck's Trucks, Chucks Trucks
Chuck is a real good guy and has helped may of our members out.
The shop manual is a good tool to have, but also, I suggest ordering a parts cd. It is complete from 48' to 56'
. It is essential for our trucks. It will aid you in any parts conquest. Once you have identified the part you need, you can put a request out on the net and usually, you will get responses about the source. Good luck Please postpictures when you can,

I have a '56 F500 being restored right now. Our brake parts are the same. My "model" is classified in the parts and accessories catalog as a "T" where as yours is a "TH" and each seem do share the same part numbers for brakes as far as I can tell.
Here is what I purchased and where:
Mac's Auto Parts: Brake Return Springs 64-24973
Napa: Brake Booster replaces C462C http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/Ca...01X_0006426067
Advance Auto Parts: Wheel Cylinders (see below) plus 5972965 brake light switch. I don't have the part numbers for the wheel cylinders I purchased from them but they were an exact match to OEM.
Your brake wheel cylinders are listed in the parts and accessories catalog as being part numbers 2061 for right hand front, 2062 for left hand front, 2261 for right hand rear and 2262 for left hand rear. This is slightly ambiguous since each of those part numbers have additions to the numbers based on the year and model even though they express each is compatible with models "C, D, Y, T and TH." Note that the "C" is a standard F100 so it leads you to believe the wheel cylinders are the same. The "actual" part numbers for your truck are:
Front RH: TDAA 2061-A 15/16" bore
Front LF: TDAA 2062-A 15/16" bore
Rear Upper (both left and right sides): B8T 2261-A 1 1/2" bore
Rear Lower (both left and right sides): B8T 2262-A 1 1/2" bore
Now that being said you can technically change to a different wheel cylinder bore if you can't find the exact bore size. But if you're doing any pulling or carrying of loads you want to go UP, not down in size. Here's an interesting read on that note: rear wheel cylinder bore going bigger. | The H.A.M.B.
Your master cylinder is part number 2140; or technically B3T-2140-A and is a 1-1/4" bore. Find it here: Ford New USA made Master Cylinder - B3T-2140-A - C&G Ford Parts
Drums are going to be a Craigslist search for sure.
Your brake shoes can be relined by many major truck repair shops. You can send them in via mail or find a local parts supplier if available.

I want to start off by saying that I am a member of several vehicle related forums including the CJ2A Page, Yota Tech, and Stovebolt. Of those I believe that Jim and Calvin's responses to my question above are some of the most informative and least judgmental I have ever seen. Usually when a newcomer asks a question about where to find something they are told to just Google it or use the search function, but not in this case.
Thank you very much indeed.
Now back to our regular programming...
I think the current booster is still functioning although the master cylinder does appear to have a leak at the rod. I will look at the larger bore wheel cylinders for sure to replace to ones that are leaking. As for the shoes I have not taken the wheels/drums off yet to see what they look like but given that they are soaking in brake fluid I will ask about getting those relined.
I will add pics and updates as I go.
Thank you very much indeed.

Well, I forgot to say WELCOME to the site! So I wasn't as friendly as I should have been. And you're welcome.
I spend a lot of time on the Antique Caterpillar Machinery Owner's Club forum and the Farmall Cub forums too. All very cool, knowledgeable gentlemen there too. But no matter where you go sometimes you'll ask a question and rather than get a direct answer you'll get a biased opinion about something else you should do. lol Anywho - glad to be of some help to you - enjoy your day!

Welcome to the forum, the world of the slightly larger trucks and the opportunities they present. Mostly good guys on here with a couple of us old cranks who've been known to voice opinions.
I will suggest that you pull each piece of brake line from the clamps and check for rust. That area is a dust/dirt collector and a bit of moisture makes for a a deteriorated hard line over time.

I love the old F600s and have had a few in the past. When I had my '56 the first thing I did was to go to a medium duty truck salvage yard and replace the old low geared rear end (axle & all) with something form the late 1960s-on so that the engine wouldn't scream at 55-60 mph. That also solved any brake parts problem, at least on the rear. Great memories, good luck with your '54

I wanted to update you on another source for all of the brake wheel cylinders, master cylinder and short, rubber front and rear brake lines from a single source. I'm also hoping other folks needing big truck brake parts find this thread and can use the information as well. These brake parts are good for 1953, 1954, 1955 and 1956 F500 and F600 as well as some COE models.
Centric has the parts and are available from Auto Atlanta and other Centric dealers. The Auto Atlanta link that has all of the parts on a single page is here: 1953 FORD MD F F600 Brake Parts
Should that link not work at some point in the future, the Centric part numbers are as follows.
Front Rubber Brake hoses 150.68008
Rear Rubber Brake hoses 150.66300
1-1/4" Master Cylinder 130.79026
1-1/2" Rear Lower Wheel Cylinders 134.82004
1-1/2" Rear Upper Wheel Cylinder 134.79001
Front WCs for 13" drums:
15/16" Front Left Wheel Cylinder 134.79025
15/16" Front Right Wheel Cylinder 134.79026
Front WCs for 14" drums:
1" Front Left Wheel Cylinder 134.82001
1" Front Right Wheel Cylinder 134.82002
Hope this helps you with your brake venture.
