UHAUL and Bronco 2

I hope I'm in the right spot and I'm sure this has been hit before, but is it true that uhaul will not allow you to rent a flatbed car trailer for a Bronco 2? I'm picking one up in a couple weeks and would prefer not to use a dolly but the website says I can't use a flatbed. Tires are stock size. I apologize if I'm in the wrong place, couldn't find a Bronco 2 section.

U-hauls tow ratings for vehicles and equipment are well under the actual ratings.. for insurance purposes I'm sure. I'm not going to suggest you do something unsafe but if the trailer you are planning to rent will carry the Bronco(it'll physically fit on there and strap down correctly) and the tow vehicle is rated to tow the combined weight of truck and trailer then maybe tell a little lie about what you plan to move.. "It's an old Honda Civic".. wink wink.. nudge nudge.

Just doesn't seem to make sense cause I wouldn't think the bronco 2 is that heavy.

Where did you hear this? Are you sure they were talking about putting a Bronco 2 ON a trailer, not talking about using a Bronco 2 to PULL the trailer?

did you look at u-huals website? You can plug in the tow vehicle and the type of trailer You want and then the type of vehicle you want to haul.

You may have to play with it a bit.

I went on the site. Im thinking its more because of my 4 wheel drive Ranger pulling it than the Bronco. But my hitch is more than enough, and the truck would easily handle it. Doesn't make sense to me.

I think it's your Ranger. Curb weight of a BII is just under 3400lbs. The empty weight of the uhaul trailer 2,200lbs. That's 5600lbs for the combo. Not sure what year your Ranger is, but a 2010 4.0L 4x2 or 4x4 automatic are the only combos allowed for that much weight (5640 and 5940lbs depending on the config). And of course Uhaul comes in under that even because they want a major margin for insurance reasons. For good reason your tow vehicle should always outclass the vehicle being towed (because car trailers are extremely heavy trailers). You're essentially towing a ranger with a ranger in this case.

Yup max trailer for a 2002 4.0L is 5600lbs on the dot. 5840 for a 4x2. That's why it's rejecting the combo.

If the tow vehicle will tow it, a little lie never hurt. I know someone who had to tow a volvo. They were gonna do it with a 250. U haul said they couldnt! told them they were jus picking up would be hauled with e350. I guess they figured they had more towing expereince and could hook up the trailer and all, let em go. needless to say the 250 towed it (frickn diesel truck tows 12k regularly, it handled the 5k trailer + car)

Uhaul wants the tow vehicle to weigh more than the towed combo. My 69 F250 wouldn't qualify for a lot of what I towed with it, but my E350 is ok with everything. I do tow a lot of Geo Metros and Rangers and Couriers though......

My stepsons Arcadia broke down and he told Uhaul he was going to tow it with an F-350. They wouldn't rent him a trailer stating the F-350 wasn't heavy enough, I loaned him my gn car trailer and he hauled in home with the wife's 1500 Silverado.
