really frustrated !!!

Ok , all weekend I have been working in putting my new motor in. the motor is a 302 efi out of a 1988 mark vii and my truck is a 1986 f150 302efi. To day I got the motor in the truck and after a lot of blood sweat and tears I hit the ignition and it started right up but runs like crap. I did change the firing order to the h.o and used the 19lbs injectors . Also the timing is set right . What could it be? Also there is a wire coming off the coil that I can't find were it goes any ideas would be awsome . I need the truck running ASAP .. Thx for the help

Is the cam ground for the h.o. firing order? If it isn't your valves wouldn't be opening/closing correctly for the firing order.

Yes it is a h .o cam , I'm wondering do the injectors need to be in the h.o order?

Is it a batch fire system ? - if so then no.

If it's a sequential injection system then - yes of course.

If you can wire the injectors for the H.O. firing order you might as well do it anyways. It will eliminate one more variable. It shouldn't take more than a couple minutes anyways right?

88 Mark VII would be batch fire as SEFI didn't come out until 89 with the MAF system. I may be mistaken as I am not sure if Ford did it different with the Lincoln as compared with the Mustang.

Ok I worked on it all day, checked the timing and wired the injectors the ho timing and no it's a pain in the butt to do that I had to cut the injector wires and and length to them , but after that it seemed to run better but still not right. It seems it's running to rich . Lot of black smoke and the plugs are all sooty .. Any one have anything I might be missing?? Plzzz help!!

Are you using the 86 F150 wiring harness, or are you trying to splice in the 88 Mark VII harness? Are you running the original F150 ECU? Have you checked for codes?

Right way to do this would be to use all the F150 EFI pieces. Should be EECIV, MAP sensor and batch fire. HO block and firing order will work. As mentioned, the camshaft determines the firing order.
