Who's using Amsoil ??

I've wanted to change over to Amsoil engine oil but got some prices and wanted some opinions if it's worth it.
Right now I use my f-350 for strictly plowing/landscaping. When I'm not out it sitting. It has a dump insert and pulls an enclosed trailer. Amsoil sig series is about $200 for three oil change worths of oil. 21 qts. The XL Oil which is a step down is $150. I have been using Mobil one which comes to about $30 an oil change and I'm happy with it. I use it on all my vehicles. My question is, is it worth it ? I change it out every 6 months regardless of miles because it sits and run the truck on short trips. I have Amsoil in the t case, trans and diffs.

Thanks
Matt

I have used it since the late 80's in everything I've owned.....Cars, trucks, motorcycles, atv's and my Peterbilt....The new to me 2011 F250 I bought a month and a half ago will make the switch as well..

only you can decide if its worth it for you..

Yes. All my commercial lawn equipment gets it. Just gotta decide if I'm going to put it in my trucks.

I wouldn't bother. You are dropping the oil every 6 months regardless of mileage....

I am a former dealer of AMSOIL. I run it in everything I own except my truck's engine. Mowers, handhelds, generators, and the like. Even the wife's Durango. If you decide to go to AMSOIL I would consider extending your oil changes to once a year. When I had my Cummins I changed the oil once a year. About 18,000 miles or so. 184,000 miles before it was totaled and I never had an oil related problem.

Now here is the dealer talking: Your truck and the way you use it is the perfect reason for using AMSOIL. You don't use it all the time but when you do you use it in harsh conditions plowing, hauling big loads, and short hops.

I would run it and extend your drain interval to a year and maybe even send the oil out to be tested. The test may show you don't even need to change it at a year. Maybe just the filter and a fresh qt to get it back to full. -Jason

There are plenty of good oils on the shelf. In fact, there aren't any bad ones. Don't waste time and money on the Amsoil pyramid scheme. JMHO.

The XL is more like a synthetic blend, much like the valvoline durablend. AMSOIL says 10,000 miles or 6 months using XL, so you really don't gain much with it. If you want to extend the drain interval I would suggest the signature series oil. That is the oil I put in my Wife's 2006 Dodge Durango. I don't even pay attention to the miles I change it the first weekend in June right before we go on vacation. I don't drive that truck much and I don't trust her to tell me when the oil needs changed so it works great for it. -Jason

One more thing Matt, what motor do you have in your one ton? I ask because the only reason I don't run AMSOIL in my trucks motor is because f the HPOP on the 7.3. That pump shears motor oil of all kinds and it is never recommended to extend the drain interval. So if you have a 7.3 or a 6.0 diesel I would remain doing what you are doing using regular old dino oil and dumping it every six months like you have been. If you used AMSOIL and continued you would not see any benefit other than having a really good synthetic oil in your truck for 6 months at a time. -Jason

I have an account with a retailer that sells Amsoil so I use a bit of it, BUT I don't use their motor oil in my trucks. My truck has Amsoil in both front and rear diffs, transfer case, transmission and power steering system. I am not a believer in extended OCIs and I change oil regularly so I see absolutely zero need to put Amsoil in my engines. I use Mobil 1, Penz Platinum or some other name brand synthetic oil for crankcase duties.

5.4 gasser

I do like changing it out every six months so I may stay with the Mobil. My main thing is, is the Amsoil a "better oil" where I will see benefits.
Both my trucks only sees about 6000 miles each a year. My other is a 2011 Silverado 2500HD 6.0 gas CC. That one I do same 6 month changes Mobil 1.

Regardless of quality i am not willing to deal with their marketing schemes. This forum dosnt seem that bad but on many forums about every other post on any oil related question is from a amsoil dealer.

Not judging the quality of the product but i am not interested in amsoil becuase of how the company is run. Theynare one step above selling berry juice for 40$ a bottle

This forum has a very strict policy against advertising without being a vendor. From various forums I have participated in over the years amsoil has never wanted to pony up the money to become an actual vendor. They send their dealers on the forums disguised as actual members and try to weasel their product into every thread they can. I won't use their product for that reason alone. I don't like paying triple the price for the same product either.
