18,000 gross would not be an F5 probably an F7 (Rated 16K-19K) If so, and it has a flathead 8 it would probably be a 337. If you could post pictures of the truck as well as the Rating plate inside the glovebox door. Most Australian Ford Trucks were built in Canada, if so the serial number should be on the drivers side frame rail near the steering box.

OK, I looked through your gallery, it does appear to be a 1951 and it does have the 8BA engine. I would venture that it is the equivalent of an F6 (16,000 lb rating)
Funny, we had a guy from Perth post very similar information about 16 years ago. He thought it was a 1948 but he never posted any pics nor did he ever post the serial number. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/56350-48-truck.html

F?

Thanks, I'll have more of a dig around and see if I can find more data on chassis, glove box lid. Seems like an updated F6 at 18000lbs. This truck is 4000km from Perth.

Mercury pickup mismatch

I bought a 1952 Mercury pickup off a fellow. The body tag on the passenger side of the firewall says:
Style 1C-81B
Body #24142
HDFN-1380
21

The stamp on the frame is:
MDA83BHN-30978
Based on the reading I've done so far in this thread it appears the body and frame may not be from the same truck.
Is this correct?

Thanks,
-Trent

This links to a post on a similar '48 Aussie truck - it's possibly an F-7 equivalent. - Bob

Hi Trent,
I realize this post is several months old, and you haven't been back since you posted, but I hope this comes back to you and is helpful.
It's possible your cab is original to your frame. Based on your serial number, you have a 1951 Mercury M1 pickup with the deluxe cab option. MD=Mercury, 83B is pickup body with deluxe cab. N is year code 1951.
The body tag on the corner of the firewall says 1C which would be 1951 half-ton, and the B on the end would denote the deluxe cab like is does in the serial number. There should also be a rectangular tag in the center of the firewall with your serial number (matching your frame number) and other info on it. I hope this helps, and I hope you come back and share more info on your truck.

A friend of mine is working on his 51 F5 cab that he is replacing his 49 F1 cab. But I have his f1 firewall factory stamp CHD14E440X. My breakdown of this is
CH = Chicago
D = Alpine Blue
14E = May 14, 1951
440X = Plant internal code
