It'll out-pull a gasser for sure. 7000# is heavy for these old trucks stock but it'll do it... if its healthy. In my opinion, diesels and gassers don't compare when it comes to towing.

My old towing rig thats now retired and now just my DD. Is a 2007 F150 5.4, it pulled 7k up the 7-13% grade at about 45-55 mph, for about 45 minutes at a time without overheating. Should the 7.3 do better or worst?

It won't win any races but it will do the job. We went through wv to Greenville nc to get a bronco. The tow truck was a fairly stock 97 f250. It did about the same job. I would like to retry that tripafter we do some iimprovements
As I listed earlier . .it though had 3.55 diff gears.your 4.10 should pull better as well.

FWIW, I pulled our 10k# travel trailer over a pretty good pass, all stock, before I did the listed improvements, and it did pretty alright for a '97 stock PSD. I was able to pull a 6-7% grade doing 40mph with no mechanical issues such as OH, etc. Just my input. Stick with her....you'll be glad you did. It's amazing how much I have beat on mine through high temps of desert heat, towing heavy weight, and it not miss a beat.

I pull 18.5K 65' long with lots of mods. Haven't hurt the motor yet but I do have a so called bullet proof trans from John Woods. It cost as much as you have in your whole truck. These trucks will pull hard, strong motors!

Thanks for the input guys. Ill get the tranny bugs fixed and give her hell. I live in the heart of the Colorado rocky mountains. Vail Pass, Red Mountain Pass, Monarch, McClure, Grand Mesa. Some of them go from elevations of 5k to 12.5k in 3-5 miles. Shell go over one everytime she hauls, shes gonna get tested. The good part will be that Ill only be pulling 7k and less.

I pull a 6K travel trailer with an auto and 3.55 gears from coast to coast with very satisfactory results. I did change-out the pancaked downpipe and lost the cat and put a Tymar intake to theoretically let it breath a little better, but I need no chips or any other power enhancers.

With good power and good mileage, I'm happy.

That's great, when I had my 27' 7K Holiday Rambler I didn't need mods. At 18.5K now, I needed to do the mods I did.

I went back and double checked my camper is actually 4600 dry and probably about 5500 loaded. So It should be pretty easy to yank around.

Your doing it all wrong Aaron. You have to convince her it's preventative maintenance. Worked for me lol
