My old towing rig thats now retired and now just my DD. Is a 2007 F150 5.4, it pulled 7k up the 7-13% grade at about 45-55 mph, for about 45 minutes at a time without overheating. Should the 7.3 do better or worst?

It won't win any races but it will do the job. We went through wv to Greenville nc to get a bronco. The tow truck was a fairly stock 97 f250. It did about the same job. I would like to retry that tripafter we do some iimprovements
As I listed earlier . .it though had 3.55 diff gears.your 4.10 should pull better as well.

FWIW, I pulled our 10k# travel trailer over a pretty good pass, all stock, before I did the listed improvements, and it did pretty alright for a '97 stock PSD. I was able to pull a 6-7% grade doing 40mph with no mechanical issues such as OH, etc. Just my input. Stick with her....you'll be glad you did. It's amazing how much I have beat on mine through high temps of desert heat, towing heavy weight, and it not miss a beat.

Thanks for the input guys. Ill get the tranny bugs fixed and give her hell. I live in the heart of the Colorado rocky mountains. Vail Pass, Red Mountain Pass, Monarch, McClure, Grand Mesa. Some of them go from elevations of 5k to 12.5k in 3-5 miles. Shell go over one everytime she hauls, shes gonna get tested. The good part will be that Ill only be pulling 7k and less.

I pull a 6K travel trailer with an auto and 3.55 gears from coast to coast with very satisfactory results. I did change-out the pancaked downpipe and lost the cat and put a Tymar intake to theoretically let it breath a little better, but I need no chips or any other power enhancers.
With good power and good mileage, I'm happy.

That's great, when I had my 27' 7K Holiday Rambler I didn't need mods. At 18.5K now, I needed to do the mods I did.
