I plan on washing the motor down and getting the crud off.
And cleaning underneath too. Then I plan on changing all the wires ,plugs,and things that need changing. After all that I want to paint the motor back to original.the sides and the bell housing
Are black and the top of the motor is ford blue.could I do it without removing the motor? I plan on tieing. plastic bags around parts I do not want painted.pluse wrap up things I do not want painted in news paper. What kinda paint do I use?and where is a good place to buy it?

 

Not sure about procedure, but I used engine paint. The idea is that the heat of the motor fully cures the paint to a hard finish.

I used rustoleum engine paint from a local canadian tire and painted mine New Ford Grey with some kinda Red on the valve covers and oil pan. I wanted Black, but the Son didn't like that and convinced me to use another colour, and he picked the red.

Trick is prep work, and getting the surfaces clean! I used paint prep in the same aisle at canadian tire, and smelled a lot like Methy Ethyl ketone...

 

That's all it is denatured alcohol .we use to use it in painting transformers.thanks I have been looking at paint guns .i plan on buying a three set one for primer and one for paint.the other is a touch up paint gun.i plan on buying a da sander ,roll of sand paper .and some filler incase of rust or dents.so most of the work is in the side of the bed.

 

That is why I like to grind down the entire outside of the block with a die grinder and an abrasive tootsie roll drum. It helps the paint adhere and keeping the engine clean is easier too. Looks nice too. You can grind off all the sharp edges and corners so manhandling the block is easier on your hands.

I do the same thing! If you are going to make it look good, you might as well go all the way!
