So I've been told several different things about my diesel. Was given a time and cost log on what was done to truck before I bought it which included a new oil cooler, fluids, etc. and then was told by ford that the old cooler was bad. I just replaced the icp sensor, coolant and oil with all the filters. Another mechanic did a leak test with blue dye and said head gaskets were going bad but there isn't any discoloring in coolant or oil but sct shows EOT around 230 degrees when warm. Can temp sensor be bad or is it bad news

Proper test for temp splits is fully warmed up 65mph for 30 minutes flat ground.
Sensors could be bad but..... Do a cold soak overnight and check that EOT and ECT are within a degree or two of each other. My guess is you won't be that lucky---time for a proper flush and egr cooler (which you should have a good one being an 03) or delete, and a new oil cooler. Do you have degas puke, are you loosing coolant. To test the head gaskets--splice in a pressure gauge to the coolant system and drive it hard and watch the pressure.

What is the coolant temp when your oil temp is 230? 230 oil temp seems pretty high if you're not towing or running up a mountain.

What kdavid said is a good way to test head gaskets.

No coolant lose and not coming out anywhere but coolant temp is about 194 when EOT is 230 on SCT module within 30 min of normal driving. What is a cold soak?

That temp spread between oil and coolant is high, maybe time for an oil cooler. Cold soak is letting it sit overnight and then check temps, they should be a couple points apart or closer. No coolant coming from the overflow (degas) is good, head gaskets would pressurize that tank and overflow it, making it puke coolant. Make sure you give it a good chemical flush before doing the oil cooler, looks like it plugged since the last one was done, they may not have flushed it or did poorly, it's a great filter.

I just bought it in Dec and dealer said they had just replaced the oil cooler but guess they either lied or screwed up. I did an oil flush before I changed the oil last week

Yep if sensors correlate then it's time for a cooler. They may have changed it but most definitely didn't do a proper coolant flush prior. These coolers make excellent coolant filters

Another thought as well --might want to check the bypass valve for the oil filter--you might get lucky.

If it really is a new cooler you might save it by back flushing.

Yea now dealer won't respond. When I changed the oil should the upper filter housing be full of oil or empty, confused on if valves are working properly and is oil cooler failure? How do I check to make sure that the oil filter housing components are working correctly?
