Looking for 5th Tailgate
#62
Now to answer two questions. First, the passenger side "pivot" is a slotted open pipe but the drivers side is a metal piece. It is sized to fit within the square outer frame but then has a hole that allows the trucks original "pin" to fit within it.
I was wrong on the weight estimate, the new gate is about 41/64th the weight of the OEM tailgate.
The pink/purple is a previous powder coating. Its just dust on my gate, wipes off with a fingertip.

It's finally a done deal and I think it'll hold anything up to the wire tethers capacity (one on each side). These three pics show the finished gate on my truck, a close up of one (of two) lock slides and my ID plate - which intentionally faces outward (to discourage its' just walking away).

I'm happy with the gate and ready to move on to the next project. I believe I'm gonna have this guy fabricate a push bar that can hold my old (17-18 year) aux. lights. Will also try to include some kind of step(s) on it, to make it easier to get to the engine bay. I'll post of that project in the regular SD forum if I decide to proceed.
My lights (on a previous truck): PIAA 90ProXT. Inner beams Fog, outer beams Driving. Last pic is just a stock internet picture.
