The 3.5L ecobbost can be had in the higher trim levels for a lower buy in cost. I did a very quick build and price comapro between the F-150 XL and the F-150 Platinum. The ecoboost 3.5L can be had on the XL truck as long as you make it a supercrew an d a 4x4, then the engine is an additional $1200.

On the Platinum which is already a supercrew, the 3.5L EB is an additional $400 and if you want a 4x4 then you add the normal 4x4 option price of $3650 or whatever.

So, in a sense, the ecoboost 3.5L option in an XL truck brings the price up from base by nearly $7500 as you have to add the Screw and 4x4.

That's an interesting way to look at the cost. A base truck with an Ecoboost would be like the sleepers we used to buy back in the day.

It's definitely a smart way to look at the cost, it just doesn't explain why there's no way to configure a fully loaded Lariat with the 2.7L. What reason is there that I can't have park assist or adaptive cruise on the smaller motor?

I just tried to build an XLT crew cab with the 2.7 to see what options I could not get. For starters it would not let me choose the Super Crew with the 2.7EB and 4x4 option. I had to go to the 4x2 on the Super crew or choose the two larger engines.

Is this true or is the Ford build and price wrong?

Take off the 6-1/2' box, and I bet it will let you go with the 2.7EB.

I wouldn't want the truck without the 6.5' bed. It will be the 5.0 or the 3.5EB for me.

I have the 2.7 in my 4x4 XLT with the 302a package. The 2.7 has a good balance of power and fuel efficiency. Perhaps the reason it's not offered on all models is Ford needs to keep all of their engine plants running full speed. They don't want to run short on 2.7s and over produce the 3.5s.

Someone at the top has a reason. I am so impressed with all of the options Ford does give us to build.

Guess what? I've got a 2015 3.5L EcoBoost and a 2015 2.7L EcoBoost. Both are SuperCab 4x4 6' beds. The y are both awesome motors and, honestly, I can't tell the difference in power just driving them around. Put your foot in either one of them and stuff goes flying around the cab! I do get posted MPG or better when I keep the foot in check and drive the speed limit. Haters are gonna hate, but these are great engines.

My ranking is 5.0, 3.5, 3.5EB and 2.7EB. It just depends what you use it for. I don't like my 3.7l, but when I think about it, why do I want a 5.0? For rumble...sure, for power, why? That 3.7l is plenty quick enough to blow right by 100 mph...way too fast.

Good and interesting information. Everyone should spend time building what they want and deciding what the want to pay for. It is fun too.

By the time I got the Costco price I would be looking at mid to high 30's--not the 50k the ecoboosters are paying--Just me.

I just built a 2015 4x2 XL RCLB w/ 3.5 ecoboost on Ford's build and price site and it was only $28095.
