Thumbs down 1973-79 Ford truck wiring harness

I am working on my 1974 ford F350 with no original wiring harness but i have the instrument cluster.

I need help. I found three wiring harnesses for the Ford truck out of a Ford F150, 250, 350. I do not know what year they came from and i want to make sure i install the correct instrument cluster for the harness.
One of the harness has an orange or reddish band taped around the wires that has Ford on it along with this ID: EDD6TB 14401DE or D0 WCCSJ. I cannot find any information on that ID number as what it means. Can anyone help me to know if this works with gauges or lights only? How can i tell if it is gauge or lights. I saw another tag on it with just 76, 76, 76 on it. I assume it is a 76 but is it for gauges or lights? I do not know how to tell. Someone let me know. Thanks,

The wiring harness plug is different between the gauge and warning light clusters. The one for gauges has more wires and terminals and is too big to fit into the socket for a warning light instrument cluster.

Also, engineering ID number D6TB-14401-DE (there isn't a DO) = Part number D6TZ-14401-D, Wiring assy., instrument panel to dash panel. Fits '76 F100-350, use with ammeter and oil pressure gauges.

I have a 74 and just put a 75/76 harness in, the only differences is the plug to the gauge cluster and the connectors for tail lighting and some wire color changes.

You can use any harness with your gauge cluster if you have the clusters pigtail connector and wire the gauges pigtail to the harness. It looks like crap and I hate it and advise against it, but it can be done.

You can id harness' by connector type and the numbers on some of the connectors. Try the numbers on the blower motor switch (grey) and the connector that goes to the tail lights. If its a black rubber connector to the tail lights its a 74 and under if its a green plastic connector its a 74/75. You can also tell by ignition switch connector.

1976's with oil/amp gauges use a different printed circuit board than 1975's, and there are two different types of these.

Printed circuit board for 1973/74's with oil/amp gauges is different than 1975.

Stylesides: 1973, 1974 before serial number T80,001 have metal tail lamp bodies, separate lenses, tail lamp socket and wiring swaged into body.

1974 from serial number T80,001, 1975/79's have a one piece molded plastic tail lamp assy., separate socket with wires twists into body.

These lamps are the same as 1975/91 Econoline & 1978/79 Bronco.

Thank you for the advise. Little things can be big things like these little wires and numbers when you cannot find it anywhere but here. I appreciate everyone and anyone whom can help out others in need. Mike seems to have pointed out the right number on the harness.

This is the plug off the 76 wiring harness i am using in my 1974 F350. I am not sure if any wires have been reversed in order or any removed as i cannot find any way to connect the numbers on the plug to the correct wire colors.

This is the tag band on the replacement wiring harness i am using in my 1974 F350

Thank you for the help. This old truck has seen a lot of problems but thanks to everyone helping out finding out hard things to run down. I am not sure if i could handle all this by myself even being inclined in mechanics.

Thanks for the help. I listed on some pictures the connector and the harness tag. I was not sure if it was a 76 cause i could not find out any info on the tag numbers, but Mike advised me of what worked with that harness as far as the cluster housing using that connector. Now, i have to make sure how to wire the oil and the alternator. I think my oil pressure switch on the 74 was bulb light so i have to change it to a potential type. I am still searching what i need to know for the correct way to wire up the alternator or is it the same from a 74 to 75 on the wiring for the gauge? I don't want to wire it up and turn on the key and fry the wires.

Thanks, Floyd

I have a hard time following the normal charts.

74 in green 75 in red along with a 74 harness. Notice the PO butchered the hrness to accept diff pigtails

This pigtailg is the tail light plug off the 74

Tank switch off 75 use standard ford date coding to decode

The pigtail for tail lights on 75 (mine arent hooked up yet)

The plugs look like one i have from a 79. I found some problems in my harness also. I needed a new fuse panel. Rusted and could not get any current to run out on some of the fuses. I just bought one off ebay out of a Datsun with ample fuses for 15 bucks so i will do like you and wire that in. I got the plug worked out on the circuit board so far. I hope i don't run into any more problems. I have tow wires near the switch that i am trying to run out now. They are red and blue and both have been cut. tc ,floyd
