C6 with a 429. Dipstick location
Rather then hijack anouther thread on a c4 with a 460, I thought I would ask my question here.
Po did not attach the dipstick top bracket to anything. Dipstick tube feels like you could pull straight out of tranny.
Problem is there is nothing to attach the bracket to on engine. Bracket does not line up.
Before I fab something up I was wondering if anyone has good pics of how tube bracket should attach.
Tks

Time to reboot and old thread.
I am hoping someone can point me in right direction.
The dipstick I have has the bracket up high near top.
Some posts I read say the bracket is down low for bolting to bell housing.
On ebay I see both high and low brackets.
I am not sure if c6 was part of the original 429 engine pull.
What I have noticed is there are two holes on the side of head facing the firewall.
I am wondering if there should be a bracket bolted to head and then the tube bracket connects to this bracket.
Could someone please tell be exactly where the high bracket should bolt if not to the open hole on head facing firewall.
Tks

Well now I am wondering if i f,d up by not looking into this a long time ago.
There is no way I have the right tube.
It is much longer and leans outboard. My best guess is po did not want to get a latter to reach the tube given lift.
When I pulled out tube there is no o ring. Could be lots of water n dirt entered the tranny.
1)When I look down inside the tranny, how low should the level be. I have read the level should overflow the tube, but by dipstick marks are almost at bottom of pan.
2) whith so many choices how best to select one that puts the tube outboard as much as possible.
I had planned to drive the truck this week, so thinking about just topping off the fluid until a replacement arrives. The quicker I order the better.

My dipstick is marked D7TP-7A020-DA so it looks like PO just bent the tube for better access.
