Powerstroke Swap

Its about that time for this bad boy. Ive got a 91 7.3L IDI thats finally becoming the mud truck. Im looking to swap the IDI for a powerstroke. I was just wondering if anyone has had the pleasure of doing this swap yet? Looking for some guidance

and education. Any help is appreciated.

Likely better off starting with an OBS, the dash is an issue, you'll need to find a way to put the OBS dash in your brick. IDIot has a thread around somewhere about putting a PS in a brick.

Im thinking anyone who is building a real mud truck is going to use a 500+ big block..? Beyond that, the IDI is more than capable of turning your "vee treads" Also, anyone crusing around BGTRL should be driving something with a 12v with an H2 grille

im currently in the middle of swapping a 460 out for a 97 PSD

if i wasnt getting paid, i would not be using a brick nose for this.

alot of work involved, the engine and trans will bolt inn just fine.

im using a GTP-38 on this truck, and the firewall needed to be highly modified for the WG and DP.

the brick nose dash will not work without spending some coin on a custom gauge cluster.

im down to wiring and fuel. i have new sending units on order. i will be running the tanks together to delete the FSV.

i believe that your 91 has the slot in the lower drivers side kick panel to accept the PCM, but the IDM will need a custom mount, dont just go zip screwing it the fender.

the connector for the dash wiring will need to be modified, these trucks stock have a round pin connector, the PSD has a square style.
the PSD wiring also has another connector for the rear tail light, speed sensor harness.

the speed sensor has not been addressed yet, but im using a PSD transfer, i forget the number, but make sure you use all of the PSD components to get everything to work together.

this has not been too difficult of a task yet, but i will be modifying a OBS steering system to the brick nose.
i see a bit of aluminum TIG welding in my future. you dont want the steering weak,

if you do not have fab skills, i would highly advise against doing this.
custom vehicles need to be customized

dont let yourself be criticized by childish banter.
we are individuals for a reason.
do what you want to do, thats half the fun of building.
there are no rules except for, BE SAFE.

ill let you know how the OBS dash swap works out.

FYI my IDM is not mounted yet.

furthermore.
a 7.3 IDI with a stock cam, ATS 093, a GOOD injection system, and a 5 speed will get you to beable to hang with a stock powerstroke.

i can hang with my buddys 01 F350 when im empty.

my IDI is my daily driver, and i also have 3 power strokes.
i love each and every one of them for different reasons.

if im going to pull anything over 3 tons, im using my 01 PSD.

but my IDI, is a pavement princess, built with 6 doors to haul my heathens around.

EDIT: the 24V is not mine

Who to you are the guys that are *******s?

Why haven't you asked this in the PS section?

Doesn't it indicate that you're *******s assuming that those who own IDIs and care enough to post here would know anything about putting in a PS? Or would be interested in donating their time to helping you when all you do is insult?
