Snowseekers V10 experience. "Chitty Deuce"

An excursion in the color I always wanted popped up on CL close to me for a good price. Needs the motor reassembled and reinstalled and "some noise" needs to be found yet. It was the reason the motor was pulled and pulled apart but I was told nothing was found that could cause the noise. Personally I am hoping it is a cracked flex plate that has happened to a few people and caused an odd noise. I will see once I get the rest of the parts here.

I like to make these threads to log my progress and share with fellow X owners and to just chat about.

I do need to get a shop manual of find a resource for the V10 mainly for the torque specs for the main things. With the motor out it should be easier to change those exhaust studs

I will keep the thread updated as things go on. I have allot going on so it may be slow going.

Oddly it is a limited but no dvd player?

Some pics of bringing it home yesterday.

You can only buy stuff like this all the time if you tell the wife it will be hers, then after it is home you can slowly take it over.

It is an 00.

I am looking at shop manuals on ebay. I see a couple different ones listed. A volume 1 and volume 2 and maybe more? Does every one of these cover the V10 motor assembly? I also see manuals on CD's, are these full manuals? Are they any good?

I love the name of the thread! If your not 100% sure, would finding an other v10 be out of the question? Would hate to see you put it all back together and still have the mystery noise. Also, will your wife be sitting behind the wheel during the whole process?

Possibly, she might get scared and want to get out when I put the X up on the hoist though.

i am not to worried about the noise yet. While assembling I will be inspecting every part and should have a good idea if it was in the motor or not. I am just worried if it is in the trans and if it'll need a trans. I will only know by putting it all together and listen to what she tells me. No one could describe the noise to me so I have no idea whats awaiting me.

Leaving to go plant shopping right now. We are going to take the mini van since there is a chance of hail and tornados.

I don't get the motor and rest of the parts till this week when the machine shop opens up. Luckily the PO already bought all new fasteners, gaskets, and whatnots so I really shouldn't need anything to put the motor together. Again we shall see as this adventure goes on.

I have bought 2 cd manuals--one for the X and another A Jeep GC. If you are doing surgery in the heartland--find the real manuals. The ones I got off of eBay were really crap. Maybe others have found some that are helpful. However, if it were me, I would be hunting paper.

BTW--nice color--just like my 01--which I still grieve over

Very cool!

Mind if I ask how much you paid for this project?

Yep I'm in. This should be interesting. I have a lot of respect for people who aren't afraid to take on other peoples problems like this. Good luck.

$1700

How could a guy just pass it up and not let that bother them?

Thanks for that info! I was really curious if those cd's were exact copies of the book or just a haynes in disguise.

Now I am curious about those Volume 1's and volume 2 books. Do both cover the V10 or neither or? The seller don't seem to be very descriptive about them.
