6r80 behind 3.7l

Hey guys. Just wondering about the durability/strength of the 6r80 behind the 3.7l. I know they have 1 or 2 less clutch plates and I am unsure what that means for the transmission. Can someone shine some light o n this for me?

What's your question? The 3.7L is the weakest of the F150 motors... and the 6R80 is used in all F150 configurations to the best of my knowledge. If it can hold up to the Ecoboost, it'll be just fine behind the 3.7.

I don't think this is uncommon. There have been differences in the transmissions behind the Super Duty between engines for years. I've never seen or heard anything to indicate that there was reduced lifespan of the transmission behind the smaller engines with less clutch plates. It's only really come up when people ask about swapping a V10 for their V8, and in such cases it's recommended to change the transmission as well.

I've never heard this discussed anywhere on this site, so I'm not sure if anyone here really knows the answer.

that being said, you best shot is in the Clutch, Transmission & Differential forum
in an honest effort to help, I copied your first two posts to a thread in that forum, your new thread can be found here:

there are some guys hanging out there that rebuild transmissions professionally. maybe one of them has the means to look it up for you (I tried and can't find anything).

I've left this thread open in this forum for more exposure. I'll be flowing both threads (because I'm interested as well) to see if anything good pops up in either place

Come to think of it, I don't remember ever hearing of someone who needed a transmission rebuild because of worn out clutches and nothing else.

Thanks for the help guys. I know the 3.7 is the weakest, but yes, that was my main concern about having less clutch plates is if the durability and longevity would be affected. I don't plan hauling more than the rating, it was just a curious question. If I could seek out some bolt one mods that could give me more power I just want the tranny to be ok.
