cold/cooled down start=violent shake/miss...then smooths out

I have 83 f-100, 4.9/I6, D.S.II conv., Offy D.P., EFI ex.man., 2bbl (rebuilt, but slight gas leak from choke side + throttle side), refreshed bottom end, fresh cyl.head rebuild, new distrib. + all electric components under hood new Borg Select. 5000 miles.

the last few days when i cold/cooled down start the truck it runs so rough/misses that it feels like its going to fall apart. as a little warmth generates, the "bucking"/missing subsides + motor "smooths out" + lifter "ticking" goes away eventually.

for a couple weeks before this started, when i first cranked the motor, it would "backfire" and blow the pvc valve out of valve cover.

Is this a problem from vacum/carb leaks? is the "ticking" from possibly a stuck lifter?

please send ur thoughts, ideas and remedies

thanx
