02 ABS/speedometer issue

this morning my 02 decided to turn the ABS light on, and start bouncing the speedometer. plus, the OD light is flashing when stopped with foot on the brakes, but the trans is shifting fine.
nothing changed on the truck except almost 3 inches of rain fell last night.

will AE tell me if the VSS is going bad?

Mine did that.....just pulled the sensor out of the diff housing and cleaned it. Worked just fine after that.

well, it gets deeper. pulled and cleaned the VSS. no go.
replaced the VSS with a known good spare off the shelf.
hook up AE, and find out AE will not work with Win 8.1, so i have to get new software.

dig up the old laptop and hook it up, when trying to check ABS get this: communications could not be established with controller.
check connection or validate that vehicle support for controller.

when i did a scan for DTC's one of them was for lack of communication with ABS module.
both the 60 amp maxi fuse and the 10 amp mini fuses are good.

i think i found it.
stopped at the body shop this morning. of course this morning the light was out, speedometer worked and OD light was out.
the mechanic suggested bleeding the brakes again, saying there may still be an air bubble in the ABS unit from when i blew the brake lines last fall. put the pressure pot on, and sure enough, got 3 bubbles out of the lines.
brake pedal is a lot firmer now too.

not sure why that would effect the speedometer though.

It wouldn't affect the speedometer.
