92 E350 7.3 diesel - Brake job cost

Hey folks,

My mechanic told me I need new brakes on my truck and quoted me 1100$.
Parts include rear emergency cables, drums, shoes, spring kits. I guess it was down to the metal and they can't be re-used or machined.

Its an E350 front end on a motorhome chassis (25 passenger bus) with a tag axle and a dualie

Seems about right for price but what are thoughts here. I'd do it myself but I'm working two jobs and don't have the time.

Said fronts still have 70% on them. Thanks for the input.

First, WELCOME to FTE!

$1100 just for the back? Sounds a bit steep, but I always do my own work.

That said, this might not be the right place to ask this, this is the Large Truck forum, basically F600+sized trucks.

What you have is really an "E450" or so, Econoline forum might be a better place to ask.

But these Large Truck guys will still help you out

I don't understand why the cables and drums would need replaced.
The drums can't be turned? they are that bad? The cables broke/rusted out?
I'm sure the springs are reusable as well but without actually seeing them. Hard to say.
But I'm doubtful as I've redone brakes on 40 yr old vehicles and the springs were fine.
The backing plate was another story though.

Hey Folks,

Id just point out that the reason i'm here is that from the front end I have an e350 but the vehicle is mounted on a 25 ft long chasis, and used to be a 25 passenger bus, So i'm kinda stuck between both worlds.\thanks for the replies.
These are things I'll take to the mechanic today when I go talk to him.

if you have drums on the rear its an e350 not a E450, drums around $200 each, cables>probably seized 60-80 each, 3.5" x12.125 shoes in the $100 and up range. might want to change the wheel cyls while you are in there..... $1100 with labour is just about right .

I'm guessing Ontario CANADA?

that big of a chassis should have been built as an E450 anyhow
