Do I need to replace Rear axle Bearings?

2001 F150--V8-4.6-3.55--8.8.
221000 Miles. Changed front rotors and pads. Had scrubing noise from right rear when applying breaks heavily. Changed rear rotors and pads. Still have scrubbing noise when breaking hard. I do not hear any noise when driving regular or when normal breaking. Differential fluid was a tad low. Applied fluid. Still have scrubbing noise. No leaks at hub seal or pinion. Bearings ? Maybe? Help please.

bearings make noise all the time when turning.. Not just when breaking hard.
--probably related to the brakes, unless the "hard breaking" allows the axle to shift due to worn bushings, and contact something else.

Yeah.....bad bearing would be growling on it's own. I did have a 98 once that had axle hop in the rear on braking.....that was bearing bad, that baby did not even leak but I could bang the axle up and down after I jacked it up....unreal no leak.

Thanks for the replies. My neighbor is a Honda Cert. mechanic. He rode with me and stated that he could hear the noise as we rode regular. I guess I have just attributed the "noise" as tire or just regular road noise. Guess i'll pulling bearing this week end.
Although, when I changed the rear rotors, the hub was tight. There was a slight grinding sound as I rotated the new rotor. I thought it just rust build up.

If the bearing is bad take a good look at the axle where the bearing rides. If it is a dull grey pitted area the axle is shot also ( the hardness is gone). They make a "repair sleeve" type bearing that rides on the axle in a different spot....don't waste your money. Be ready to source an axle before you tear it apart. You'll need a slide hammer to pull the bearing...comes out pretty easy.
