Questions about Original Equipment on my 78 F150

I have a 1978 F150 Lariat SWB that I am in the process of restoring to original. I have noticed some trucks have the vertical horns on the front bumper and some don't. Does anyone know how my Lariat would have came from the factory? Also wondering if the cleats on the side of the bed were factory on the Lariat?https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwW...ew?usp=sharing

I don't know the details there, but a Marti report will be helpful if you want to know what options your truck was ordered with:

Marti Auto Works - Marti Report

He has all of Ford's original production records from '67-'07.

Marti Report

I don't think bumper horns were an option to be ordered. I don't think a list of options would help me on this.

Not sure if they were or not, but I'd be surprised if it was as simple as all Lariats either including them or not... most nothing else on these trucks is. Looking through the '78 factory literature, there are some pictures of Rangers w/ those and some without; there are some Ranger XLTs with them and some without; there are some 4x4 trucks with them and some without; I didn't notice a picture of a Lariat that included them, but the other trim levels weren't consistent, so I don't think that means anything.

NumberDummy may be able to offer more detail on which models were offered with those bumper guards (and exactly what Ford called 'em).

What exactly do you mean by cleats? Tie downs? If by horns you mean the vertical rubber pieces on the front of the bumper, those were available on the Ranger trim level and up I believe.

Yes. I am referring to the vertical steel pieces with rubber on the front of the bumper. Do you think they are standard on the Lariat Trim? Also referring to the tie down cleats on the side of the bed near the top.

They're usually referred to as bumper guards. I picked up a nice pair for $10. Gave them a good cleaning, new rubber liners, and installed them. See below.

And the bed "cleats" are usually referred to as tie-downs.. circa 73 or so as an option. I have an entire 8-piece set awaiting re-chroming for my 71 F250 LB. And no, I don't care if they are not 'period correct'.

You got caught up in in naming them and didn't answer the question. In Alabama they are Bumper Horns. I have no preference so I want to make the truck original.
