Air Conditioner Update F250

Hello All. I have a 1999a F250 7.3 Powerstroke and this year the air conditioner is just not quite as cold as it was last year. Everything is original as of 1999. Hoses and all parts are clean. I have R-134a according to the sticker under the hood.

Does anyone have any luck with those cans of air conditioner stuff from the auto parts store to top off the air conditioner units.

I figure after all these years a little update is in order to get it real cold.

Thanks
RC

You may want to post this in the Cooling, heating, vent.... forum. When I had a major problem with my AC the guys on there were great with helping.

I will say that you should have some data for them to look at. Like the Outside Air Temp, High Side Pressure, and Low Side Pressure. Take some readings as the pump kicks on an off.

Note: If you add too much 134a the high side pressures will increase to a level that can cause the pump to fail.

Also, how does the condenser look? It is in front of the radiator. Is it clean with none of the fins bent?

Finally, the clutch on the compressor may be worn and need some work.

You may want to just start out reading the HVAC FAQs (which, of course, are in the HVAC section).

Air gap on the clutch is adjustable with shims and easy to check. My AC quit one summer and that fixed it. The clutch gap was so wide it wouldn't engage.
