Cool TIME TO SEE WHO KNOWS TRANNYS AND WHO IS JUST SPINNING GEARS

Thanks in advance for taking time to read my post and any and all input will be greatly appreciated.

AT first I thought my 18 year old son was hotrodding the truck, maybe neutral drop burnouts or something. THAT WAS 13 Starters and 4 c6 trannys ago.

its a 1989 f250 2wd automatic with a 351 Windsor 0r 5.8 for you metric lovers. mileage unknown

Most would have taken it to the crusher by now and bought another vehicle. I am not from the school of quitters and now its personal. As much as its insane to do the same thing over and over expecting a different outcome I HAVE TOTALLY FLIPPED MY LID WITH THIS ONE. PLEASE HELP RESTORE MY SANITY.

HISTORY.... USED 351 INSTALLED ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO..RAN FINE ABOUT 3 MONTHS BOLTS STAYED TIGHT NO PROBLEMS
4 MONTHS IN STARTER BREAKS TABS LEAVES BOLTS IN BELHOUSING TIGHT

5 MO IN STARTER BREAKS Aqain replaced starter and flex plate

every two weeks starter starter starter then .... c6 trans breaks bellhousing wtf?

replaced dust plate starter and trans.new bolts and tourqued to specs.

2 trannys later countless wrenching and money brings us to the final try
rebulit tranny new starter new flexplate new motor mounts. new tranny mounts new harmonic balancer new driveshaft new u joints had to take care of it right?

WRONG TRANNY GRENADED WHEN MY SON LET OFF THE THROTTLE AT ABOUT 55 MPH HE WAS BABYING THE TRUCK CAUSE HE DIDNT WANT TO HAVE TO FIX IT AGAIN MY BUDDY AND OLDEST SON IS HEARTBROKEN. HE HAS LEARNED ALOT SO FAR BUT NEEDS TO KNOW IT WASNT IN VANE. WHAT COULD BE CAUSING THIS PROBLEM. ID POST PICS BUT I AM A NEW MEMBER THANKS, MIKE LOVE TUCSON AZ.

Are you running a tranny cooler? Is it clogged? How is the torque converter?

THE TORQUE CONVERTER WAS CHANGED WITH EACH TRANSMISSION THE COOLER IS BUILT INTO THE RADIATOR AND IS CLEAR MAYBE I DIDNOT SAY IT CORRECTLY BY GRENADED I MEAN BUSTED THE BELL HOUSING IN TO 7 OR 8 PIECES STARTING ON THE TOP IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT

Do you have a block plate installed between the bellhousing and the engine?

Make sure you have the correct starter… manual and automatic transmissions are different… the nose piece is a different length between two. Many parts stores only list one starter… it will break if it's not correct.

If all the parts are correct then something is bad out of line or bent . I Would probably be checking for a bent crank.

This is a really good question here. If you do not have the block plate installed, it could cause the problems you are seeing as the trans is too close to the engine. You said "new dust plate" but I would think that means the inspection cover?

If that's not it, after all that trouble, I would do a complete engine/tranny swap. You gotta replace the trans and starter and flywheel anyway. Something is bent - at least, it is now. :-)

IF THE CRANK WERE BENT WOULDN'T IT BLOW UP AS SOON AS STARTED OR AS SOON AS IT TORQUED.

THE NEW TRANS MOUNT DOESN'T SAY FRONT OR REAR AND THE BOLTS ARE OFFSET.THE BOTTOM BOLTS ARE ALL THE WAY FORWARD IN THE SLOTS. COULD THIS BE THE CULPRIT? BY THE WAY WHEN THE BELL BLEW APART THIS TIME IT WAS MUCH MORE VIOLENT. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME ALL THE MOUNTS MOTOR AND TRANS HAVE BEEN REPLACED NEW

I don't think so - if they are all the way forward, then it would be able to push back in the slide if it was under stress. If they were all the way to the back, where it could not push back, then you might have something.

You gotta replace the trans and the flywheel and starter anyway, I think it would be faster to source and entire engine/trans combo and replace the whole thing.
