what engine

my 95 windstar has a 3.8l engine that sat out in the back yard for a few years with no water in it,they couldn't find the leak it was a bad radiator and the hose to the rear heater was disconnected i went to turn it over by hand and could only go halfway,i thought the motor was shot but it was the freeze plug up behind the flexplate. took the engine out and had the block checked,it was ok now it just need to put it together but the bottom rings on the pistons is collapsed. should i bore it out a bit and change the pistons as well? the heads were cleaned and vac checked as well. or would it be cheaper to buy a used one in the wrecking yard?

Wrong forum. But it's always cheaper to buy one that's running than rebuild. Just try and determine why the vehicle was sent to the bone yard to begin with. Some yards will let you pay a little more and keep swapping till you find one that works.

You could probably find a nice used Windstar for a few hundred bucks that doesn't need much work.... I bought a 95k mile 1993 Caravan for $600 2 years ago.
