Road trip and car show

I did a 500 mile round trip in the old truck this weekend. Me and a buddy headed out to the eastern plains of New Mexico to a car show in Roswell. I ran the old truck between 75 and 80 with a hefty crosswind. I managed 16MPG coming and going. I was pretty shocked since the danged wind was so bad.
Here's a few shots from the road

Great pictures!, and 16mpg at 75 & 80 is great in the mountains with windy conditions in almost any truck. Do you have an overdrive AT and a highway rear end?

Thanks guys
I'm running 2.75:1 rear gears. I love them. The big Caddy engine has plenty of torque so its a nice combination. I'd love to swap in a 4spd auto.....someday

At that speed I'm running about 2800-2900 RPMs. still more than I'd like, but it will have to do. My old engine has close to 150K miles on it and at extended trips at RPM I start pushing oil out of gaskets and seals.....again......someday, I'll rebuild it.

It was nice getting to a different area and seeing new cars and meeting new people. The old traditional hot rod truck is pretty interesting. The cab was made from a Lincoln sedan, he's running the big 337 flatty with a homemade 3 deuce intake. It was a pretty neat truck.

Bobby, I collect bugs just like that, too. It only takes one round trip to Culvers for a cruise in to mess up the windshield, headlights, grill, etc. On road trips I get 17ish mpg, 2400 rpm at 75mph. Right in the sweet spot. Looks like you had a great time! You coming to the NSRA in Pueblo in June?

Yep, that's the 337 Lincoln. The truck cab was actually cut down from a severely damaged Lincoln sedan so he wanted to keep a Lincoln engine in it.

Nice! I'll bet your truck is a bit more comfy than mine....lol. Next project, paint the inside, and install weather strips, etc. As much as I'd like to come up for that Pueblo show I don't think I'll be able to, the wife and I are driving up to Yellowstone for a vacation in June. I'll have to live vicariously through you for that one
