The engine wants to make that noise, but the factory exhaust system kills it. A 4" exhaust with a proper muffler (or any system with no muffler) will let that caged whistle out.

The early 6.0's really whistle. My neighbor cut his exhaust under the truck and turned it toward the ground to get the sound to bounce off the pavement. You could hear him coming from afar. His buddies have later 6.0's and they are jealous because apparently there was something different about the earlier turbo or wheel that is louder, or so I'm told

Had a buddy tell me the same thing today. Something to do with angle of fins in turbo.

my 6.0 did that after a 4" straight exhaust. Drove me NUTS. After the EGR delete and a new up pipe it stopped, now it just sounds like a v8 rumbling. way better.

It totally is playing cards in the spokes. Add a 'smoke switch' and poof you're an obnoxious 8 year old again. Gives us all a bad rep.

Straight thru exhaust, was to loud for me and the whistle was terribly annoying I had to do something. Drove me nuts.. I bought a summit racing pass thru silencer and hushed it back up. That whistle drives me nuts.

4" exhaust with a high-flow muffler, and I get a ton of whistle (which I happen to love). You don't need to get rid of the muffler to get great sound! I also deleted the EBPV, but Tugly didn't remove his, and he still gets the whistle, so I don't think the presence of the EBPV has much impact.

I just cut the muffler off my 99 with stock pipes, 3.5". I can hear a little whistle now. I like the way it sounds now though. Before it was just like all you could hear was the engine. Now its like what a big v8 should sound like.

My buddy at work has a 2003 6.0 with a 4" strait pipe and his whistle is lots louder than mine.
