Guy is asking 3500 for a rolled 97 f350. Supposedly 30k on a rebuilt trans, good tires and wheels, would prob have a dana 60 in it too.

Seems like a good deal? I guess it depends if it was running long upside down?

Just dropped $4500 on my crew cab and have $1500 in tires and front end parts. Coffer is getting low. And Mrs. needs a car soon. It's a tough decision to get another broke down OBS...

Will a 97 PSD essentially plug right in to my 96?

I guess before I tear into it deeper I need to check comp on the other 6 holes. I got 275psi on 5 and 90psi on 7.

Is there a way to rig my compression tester to do a leak down test? Maybe just a valve?

How long can I drive it on 7 cylinders?

If he can show papers for the new tranny then I'd buy it if it all checked out. Not sure what the hell he could have done to that truck if still stock to blow a trans in 70k miles.

Never said where this so called truck is!

Can't tear that old one up tho.its already broke.
That roll could have bent the 60 possibly. I would be very careful.
Buy an engine off car part most days for 5-800$.
That's what I would do.

Says he has papers for the tranny, was rebuilt by AAMCO...

Sounds like engine was a new shortblock and then professionally done by a local shop.

He said all the truck did was roll on it's driver's side and messed up the door/cab. He said he checked all the fluids and drove it since. No smoke and starts/runs good.

Got the feeling the guy had shops do most of his maintenance. Tires don't go with because they are only 2 weeks old.

Agreed.... If you can find a motor for that in your area... Out here the only thing you will find for that price is a core long block. Maybe different else where. I looked for 3 years to find engine #2!

Half the 7.3 are 200k+ long blocks missing every component outside of the valve covers and not including injectors for 1000+ here... not sure why people think cores are worth that.

Well if its running take it for a drive... do your basic checks while she is running and that should tell the story clearly!

Unless I win the lottery, I'm probably going to pass on the parts truck right now. Plus I don't want to take a gamble on another engine that may not have been treated well. Ad is in Spokane Craigslist if any of you are at better means to pick up a parts rig.

Here are the final numbers on mine:
1-295
2-290
3-285
4-270
5-275
6-250
7-100
8-200

2 pretty bad holes and one marginal. Think I'm going to rebuild when time permits later this summer. Can a 2 ton cherry picker handle one of these?

Yeah those are not ideal at all. Were those done hot? Yes I have a HF 2 ton puller and at full extension pull cummins and 7.3 motors routinely fully dressed.
