This is exactly what Maine's issues stem from. Out of staters coming back to my home and running for town offices, leading a band of Sierra Club members and other things that native Mainers really don't need help with.

What we need is rock solid employment that pays a nice wage and offers a career.

There's a lot of Kent area people on FTE, me included.

As for best State, well I choose Washington of course, I keep coming back. Florida and Texas have there up sides but they are too darn hot. I'm warm blooded and like wearing clothes, even Washington is too hot for me much of the year. Did Texas pass open carry? That would be my second biggest issue with both Texas and Florida, of course same logic only worse applies to Maine.

Doesn't Maine have some horrible vehicle laws, like no lifts or oversize tires and stuff like that? Oh and of course horrible winters? I think Texas and Florida got more snow this winter then we did in Washington.

In short Washington:
-Great climate, west side anyway.
-Booming economy Seattle is the fastest growing city in the country.
-No income tax.
-Good vehicle laws, some emissions, bumper height, mud flaps etc, but that's it. No safety inspections.
-"Collector plates" and low tab fees.
-Great gun laws.

Biggest negatives:
-Cost of land in the good areas for work.
-Bad roads in the good areas for work.
-Liberal politicians doing stupid things, like building trains and not roads.

Maine salts the roads and has an annual inspection that fails vehicles with holes. Cars don't last long, unless you take some drastic measures on them.
The lift and tires thing can be circumvented by registering it as a modified vehicle.

Maybe we should make a chapter. I did know you were from Kent even with your location. Dylan mentioned it at a Jimmy Mac's meet.

This is like picking a favorite child...

When I say "New York" please don't automatically think New York City. Here in Western New York and the Finger Lakes region you'll find nice people (a lot of Midwestern attitudes here), everything's close by and home prices are incredibly reasonable. Our taxes are nothing short of insane, but they'll buy your kids a public education that's better than many private schools (in the better school districts, of course).

Went to Maine for the first time last year, and it is beautiful, but for me ALL of New England is spectacular. If you've never summered on Cape Cod or been to Vermont in the fall, then you don't know what you're missing. My winter getaway still sits in Clearwater, FL, waiting for the day when I can afford to retire. That's looking more and more like the Twelfth of Never...

Pleasantly surprised by Kansas the time we had the FTE get-together there; more rolling hills and nice scenery than I imagined, and the people were great. REALLY enjoyed Lexington, KY, and Seattle was great. The rest of the West Coast was for the most part disappointing.

I haven't been to every state in the union...yet, but thus far I have to go with what I consider to be my home state of South Carolina. Florida is pretty great except for the fact that every time I turn on the news something crazy is happening there. Like 2 years ago when that zombie at that guys face off in Miami. I am getting off topic. Fully acknowledging that SC has a "sketchy" past, they are moving forward and below I have listed my reasons for why it is the best.

Reasons why SC is the place to be:
1) Southern Hospitality
2) Sweet Tea
3) Longest Deer Season in the Country (15 Aug-1 Jan)
4) Can Ride a Motorcycle All Year (10 months if you are a baby like me)
5) BBQ (yes Carolina BBQ is the best in the country)
6) Beaches
