Well after all the hundreds of hours, many skinned knuckles and frustration to make a man pull his hair out I finally got to drive the 49 F1. That thing is hands down the most fun thing I've ever driven. I was surprised how good the brakes were to be original style even though the components are new. It handled and steered pretty good too. And for you folks who are purest it's time to cover your eyes. That moderately built small block chevy really made the truck stick out in a crowd for sure. I could never use all the power that is there but it's fun to listen to it and feel it. I hate to admit it but I'm kind of proud of myself as I did the body and fab work, the upholstery and all the inside, the wiriing, mechanical and painting myself. It's not a show truck but it did turn out as I expected to be a nice driver quality truck. I've uploaded a few pics to an album if anyone is interested. I've learned a lot lurking and reading posts on this forum. This is the best resource for this on the net.

thanks avf100. I used Rustoleum satin black. Mixed 2 parts paint to one part acetone. I think the paint number is 7777. Not a show stopping paint job but looks decent. And it's cheap.

I've heard about the rustoleum paint jobs, seen them done on you tube etc. But I never saw one in person until last year. A guy had a 32 coupe that he had used the rustoleum paint. Looked good, a little orange peel looking but otherwise I liked it.

That is one fine looking machine. Looks about like an old Ford truck should look. Drive it and enjoy it. You're right on the brakes. Originals work just fine when they are in good shape.

We had a lot of help with our's - I always admire the guys on here who can do all their own work. I like the paint -
that for me would be the hardest part. Here in Austin it's an arm & a leg to get paint work done ($7,000) -
You saved a ton & it looks wonderful.
