Major power loss issue
My 2002 Excursion has the 6.8 v10 with 170k miles. She has towed our boats, trailers, and campers faithfully for the last 5 years with little to no issues and minimum, regular maintenance.
A few weeks ago, we were towing in 4x4 and the #45 fuse blew. We replaced it and continued driving. It blew again a week or so ago, we replaced again.
Ever since that incident we have had MAJOR power loss issues. Not towing, she gets hung up around 50mph, unable to build enough power to switch gears from 2 to 3. I can step on the gas and raise the rpm, but we never actually speed up. Eventually, with a lot of babying and raising and lowering the gas pedal, she changes gears and we continue on. Every now and then this also happens around 30mph when trying to switch from gear 1 to 2, but not always.
We towed an empty flatbed trailer yesterday and when we went up a mild hill, not only did she not hold her own, she lost almost 10mph. Before these issues started, we have pulled the trailer many times and you can't even tell it is behind the truck.
What are some things we should be checking for that would cause this crazy power loss ?
What would cause the #45 fuse to blow?
Thanks for any insight.
