Show Your Truck W/ Bumper Pull Camper Here....

While that MPG rating is good IMHO, I have a 2005 F350 DRW CC 4x4 with a 6.0L. Its untuned, stock with only new replacement parts having been used. I have a Crossroads ZT33BH that weighs in at 8374 dry. I have it loaded with more than 1000 lbs worth of stuff, so I am assuming a weight of 9k. With this, I get 10-13 mpg while towing the same speed. I'm curious what the difference is other than mine being a 6.0L and having DRW. What is your axle ratio?

I expected several more from all you West Coast guys.

I rarely see them in New England. I assume that because they are made on the west coast, transportation cost to get them over here makes them much less competitive than a trailer manufactured in Indiana.

2008 Tango 299BHS. Weighs in at 7400 pounds loaded out for a long excursion. Tongue weight is a surprising 1100 pounds. I use a 1200 lbs Equal-i-zer hitch and StableLoads. The trailer axles have been flipped. I can't leave well enough alone so I am constantly tinkering with the trailer. This setup has seen 13 western states from San Diego to Yellowstone and everywhere in between.

All these nice new rigs makes me a little jealous. But, mines bought and paid for, and we always have a blast. I'm lucky enough to live where I have two nice campgrounds on the lake and countless in the mountains, some on the rivers just minutes away. I can be at cades cove in the great smokey mountains national park in 40 minutes. I have an 06 Bermuda 30' BH no slides, and a 94' f150 long bed 300 6 auto. I added a 3.73 gear and tranny cooler. It needs some helper springs, but pulls it good. Much more stable than the 97 expedition I use to tow with. These pictures were actually at a friends property on the lake for a Halloween party. It was a 1995 F250 PSD, in near perfect condition. I sold it last spring for nearly $20k. I needed a dually.

I don't know what you have read, but a 460 is an excellent tow motor. I've had one. It is a gas engine, and has its limits and those limits are based on gearing. But for me, someone who will never tow over 10000lbs and all my favorite campgrounds are within 30 miles of the house, a 460 makes perfect sense. Sure I would take a diesel, but give me a choice with the gas motor being a lot cheaper, and idk. It would be a judgement of the two trucks conditions. Diesels pull great, get better mileage, better resale, but when you are looking at 20 year old trucks, there is no warranty. Diesel Maintenance is much more and the cost of repairs is much more. The 7.3 may run 1/2 million plus, but everything bolted to it want. It's also a truck that for me, would sit most of the time. I drive a newer focus back and forth to work everyday. 34mpg only makes sense.
