1964 f100 front bumper connection

So, I took off my bumper and found this underneath.

pretty "special" engineering from the PO.

I'm now not too sure my bumper is from this truck. My question is, how does a 64 bumper connect to the truck. I seem to remember my 63 (back in the day) had a tri-bolt connection to either the frame or to brackets that connected to the frame. I know the 64 bumper is not the same tri-bolt setup, but it can't be THIS nonsense.

Thanks in advance,
Steve

It should connect directly to the frame ends. Beginning in '64 each side had only 2 bolts and not in the same position as '61-'63.

1961/63 front bumpers use 3 bolts per side in a triangular shaped pattern. 1964/66 front bumpers use 2 bolts per side.

C4TZ-17752-A Right & C4TZ-17753-A Left .. Front Bumper Brackets / Obsolete

Applications: 1964/66 F250 4WD & F350.

ohhh. thanks bill and limegold. great information.

According to the top-left diagram (F100 4x2, which I assume is 2WD), it looks like my bumper should connect directly to the frame without a bracket. I'm going to take some pictures of the front of my frame because I don't think that is possible.

I'll post those pictures tomorrow and maybe you can help me out some more. I appreciate your help.

Steve

Parts catalog applications are actually 1964/66 F100/350, but I don't see F100 bumper brackets in the pic.

yeah, i don't see them, either. I took some more pictures last night of the end of my frame.

so, i can't see how a bumper would connect directly to the frame. i'm pretty sure the bumper is not a 64 bumper, which makes me think I either have to get a new bumper or look into making a couple of brackets, but not out of tinker toy pieces, like the PO did.

We need to find a pic of an actual 64 bumper, and see if that is it or not. Looks like you'll have to scrounge up, or make you some brackets, Steve.

Maybe thosea F350 brackets would work with some minor modifications. I'm going to look at that, I think, unless ND Bill tells me it's a bad idea. The bottom hole on the side of the frame looks a little suspect, too.

Looks like they welded that part of the frame shut next to that hole.

You might want to check on the front frame horn length. To me with no holes being visible for the original bracket that is riveted on Im suspecting that your frame has been shortened. If the frame has been shortened down a stock bumper may not fit anymore. There is a splash pan that is supposed to go between the bumper and the grill. It bolts between the fenders and is also bolted to the core support. Looks like that front end has been highly modified from original by PO. Square cut outs in the core support where round indents in the metal should be. Core support bottom end looks pretty rusty you might want to think about replacing it or repairing it before proceeding. The shortness on the frame horns might want to be addressed too if going back to a stock look. Just my two cents worth.

Yeah Buzz, it's pretty messy there. He DID change quite a bit in the front end. Any idea what the front horn length is supposed to be?

I'm having trouble fitting the grille back on. Seems the splash pan is too high or something. The more I take apart, the more "wrong" i'm finding.

Any actual pictures of a decent front end would really be helpful.

Your frame has been cut to accommodate the brackets. As you can see in ND's illustration, the frame ends originally wrapped around at the front with holes to mount the bumper.

As far as whether you have an actual '64 bumper, any from '64-'79 will mount to a '64 frame, although there are appearance differences ('64-'66 are the same, '67-77 are slightly different, '78-'79 very different).

I happen to have my sons 64 F100 sitting in my back yard. I can get a measurement and a pic from under the truck at that point for you but it will be later today.
