A longer blade would hit the antenna a bit when lifting the right wiper and would have more of a windshield curve to conform to on the right edge of the windshield as well. I don't see why they would not run a 20"/22" combination except for holding to a single size blade. (My '91 BMW also uses 20" blades so it has been convenient to keep a spare pair of 20 inch blades around.)

I just had the same thought when it came time to replace mine recently. After reading this thread I decided to try 24", which is 2" longer than the size on the books, and 4" longer than the 20" ones that were already on it. 24" Rain-X wipers fit perfectly and don't stick up at the ends where you might expect it to from having to cover more curve. It also just barely clears the antenna when lifting the arm. 😌

I actually like to run a shorter wiper blade by an inch or two so it’s a little bit stiffer and less likely to wobble, vibrate or squeak. Also, if I’m not being lazy, I’ll put a coat off wax on the windshield every so often. Helps in the rain and with the removal of accumulated snow.

Both ideas are good choices. I don't understand the "need" for wiper blades on the E-Series longer than 19" as they don't wipe very well due the reduced pressure and WTH are you trying to see that high above the road anyway? :I've run the longer lengths even with brand new Ford wiper arms and they're just not that useful, IMHO anyway.

That's an okay product but PPG's Aquapel is a bit better, costs a bit more but seems to work longer and a bit better.
