300-6cyl poor gas milage

My 82' f100 with a 300 6 cyl with a 4 speed od stick is only getting about 10.5 mpg. It has a 1 bbl carb. Is this normal or should it be better? I don't know what to do to get it doing better. Any thoughts? Thanks

It should definitely get around 15 mpg or higher, if it gets much below that, Id say something is wrong. You could start out with cleaning the carb and replacing the fuel filter and spark plugs, basic tune up things.

Ok thanks, I'll start with a carb clean and whatever else I can try. Ty.
