Turbo not working right after S&B air box change
'01 F-350 SD 4X4 6-speed 185K miles
So I installed the S&B cold air intake on my truck today. Then went for a test drive and after driving about 15 miles the turbo isn't working like it was. I am not getting hardly any boost pressure on my gauge and it is lacking in power. I noticed also when I tach up the engine and let off to shift I can hear a strange whining noise from under the hood. All connections from the air box to the turbo are secure. All electrical connections are connected. Have to tach the engine to about 1500 RPM before I get any boost pressure then it will only go up to about 8 PSI at 2500 RPM. Everything is clean inside the turbo. No dust and just a minimal amount of oil. Before the air box change it would idle with almost 1 PSI pressure. Could this be a turbo failure? I'm afraid to drive it like it is. Don't want to cause any more problems.
I started a thread about my turbo wheel before the air box change here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post15306539
If anyone has any input on this I would greatly appreciate it!

I removed the tube after test drive and felt the wheel. It turned freely and didn't have any side to side or in and out play. Started it up with the tube off and it was spinning. I didn't check to see if it had and suction at the turbo intake but I did check with the tube connected and with the filter on it and I could feel it pulling air through the filter.

All shipping wrap removed and no plugs or anything in the tubes. I can feel it pulling air into the filter. Could it be a stuck valve on the turbo or something like that?

I have to ask.... 8 PSI boost at 2500 RPM - is that Wide Open Throttle? Where are you getting the boost reading, a gauge or the OBDII port? Was any other service work done in there while you were replacing the intake? What did you do with the green line to the intake boot? Was the turbo weak right away, or after the 15 miles you mentioned?

I'm wondering if the failure isn't in the boost line and lower boost numbers making you feel like there's a problem that isn't there. I have that same whining sound when the tranny shifts. I am under the impression that it is the turbo and that it is normal for the equipment on the truck.
