2.7 auto start stop
#18
Don't know if anyone has come up with a reasonable solution to disable auto start/stop, but I just purchased a 2016 and I have a -SIMPLE- solution.
I just -jammed- the disable button in and the feature is ALWAYS DISABLED.
I live in the country and we have -one- flashing red light in the -entire county-. The feature is annoying and doesn't save any gas or pollution for the 2 or 3 seconds the engine might be off. It does wear the starter and may use -more fuel-.

Thanks-
My fix is simpler for most people and easily done.
I just jammed a piece of a black 'nylon tie' in and cut the end off with a razor blade. If I decide to change it back I'll just pop the piece out.
I read the 'jumper' fix that requires removal of the switch after removing a panel.

I with you on that. Starting in 2017 don't all the EcoBoost engines get that technology? I already shut my engine off when waiting for trains and a couple super long lights we have.

In my case I -do not- see a benefit but I see unnecessary starter wear when I -do not- have any stop lights, only stop signs. I stop for 2 or 3 seconds and the engine shuts off. You cannot convince me that there is any fuel savings, but I guarantee there is starter wear.
Once again, this 'feature' may be good for city folks but not where I live. Therefore I want to be able to turn it OFF.

Not saying starters aren't going to wear out, but without evidence that they will why worry about it? Do you worry about your lifters or piston rings?

I hate the feature! It does not save me anything on fuel, I know because I have tried it and I bet it's harder on the engine to restart than it is to stay running. I have it disabled and will leave it that way. I will not buy another one with it till I can't find one with out it either unless it can be permanently disabled! Put it as a setup in the dash! My truck my choice!

It's a feature that is common in Europe. In fact, if vehicles don't have it, they are difficult to sell. It will become much more common in North America in the near future I'm sure. As for wear and tear, the engine is designed for it. Special coatings all over inside to protect it, also the oil stays up in the engine for quite awhile after it stops. Starter is tested to 240,000 cycles. That said, if I only had one stop sign in a small town, I might disable it. I also turn it off in stop and go traffic.
