460 fuel mileage

What kinda fuel mileage is everyone getting out of their 460? I know they arent gonna be a gas saver but mine gets less than 10. Seen it as low as 6 and highest was just under 10. Mine is in a 2wd 79 crew cab with a c6 auto

I daily drove mine to work for about a month when I first got it (79' F250 2wd, C6 auto) and got around 7 mpg at best. That was at an ave. speed of around 55mph. Mine has 125,000 original miles, it was running a little rich, with some tinkering I hope to improve it some...I'd love to see 10mpg, lol.

I don't have a 460 myself, but from what I've read on other threads, double-digit fuel economy from one of those in these trucks is like a unicorn...

I think the gearing has alot to do with it, I haven't decoded my vin on my 79' so I'm not sure what gears came in the F250's, but I plan on swapping the motor and trans into my 76 f150, so with some taller gears I hope it improves!

9-10 avg with 460 .030 over hypereutectics rv cam c6 3.55 245-75-16s according to my math calculations and i got 10-12 with 315-75-16's but they began hurting my 2nd gear so i dropped sizes but it runs a 14.4 1/4 and when i am playing hard its about 1/2 of my normal mileage

I changed from a 3.89 I think to a 3.00 with 30" tires and a c6 got 12 a couple days ago running into a bit of wind. Went from 3,000 rpm at 70 to 2500rpm, the old diff would be perfect with an overdrive

Before my diesel swap my 460 was sitting about 8 and 4. Averaged about a 100 miles out of the 19 gallon tank.

"sucks" = 460 gas mileage! Or a crappy 400's mileage! I thinking of going to a 460, since I'm gettin such crappy mileage, I might as well have the power!

Although, I did have a 94 F350 4x/CC/LB/460/4.10's and 35's and could get 12 if I could keep my foot out of it,,, IF, IF I could but alas, that was EFI,
