Late Build Date?

I was looking at VIN decoder the other day on my new 2014 F150. To my surprise that it's build on November 2014, I thought that usually the current model year stop building by late August or something in order to start the new model year in early fall. Why has Ford continue building 2014 till past November? Looks like they had late start with the new 2015 model year?

It's not that uncommon with trucks, part of it is the big switch over to a new body style. To keep trucks on the lot to sell they had to produce them.

Kansas City ran the '14's until Christmas, mine was a December build. When you build a vehicle at multiple plants and have a major MY change, the prudent thing is to convert one at a time. Issues found at the first plant can be solved before the transition at the second plant. Trust me, there are always plenty of issues.

Yep, the Dearborn F150 plant shut down early for the change over. The Dearborn truck plant is the one Ford uses to take folks on tours. When I was up there visiting my daughter, I wanted to tour a plant, but it was shut down already.

go to FordEtis home page. Put in the vin # and it will tell you the build date.
