OT A nw Tap and die set

Nice case also.

Hi gang. Bought a new tap and die set today. Anyone looking for one, I found a 75 piece set (metric and SAE) on sale at Sears. Model 52377. Listed for about $219. On sale for $109.49 Had a few boogered threads on the truck and needed some taps.

Looks good Jim, that quite the assortment. You should have all the different sizes you could ever need.

Here is another good deal, I have this set in standard and metric. Some of the not normally used sizes are in these kits.

That sounds like a great deal on a tap and die set.
I have a tap and die set. I rarely use it, most of the time I go to my thread chaser set. Its not often I have to create new threads, most of the time I just need to clean up the old ones.

These are a handy thing to have in the shop.

Looks like you can get them through Sears as well;

Bobby,
According to some folks on the Garage Journal, this Sears rethreading set is the exact one sold by Snap-On...only difference is that the Sears model does not come with the lifetime warranty. Sets are made in Racine, WI, USA

That's good to know. I bought the Snap-On set years ago, back when I was still wrenching.
I think I'll buy Dad the set from Sears this year for Fathers Day. My set has paid for itself countless times over

Thread chasers do not remove as much material and are not made for cutting new threads. Good for cleaning up head bolt threads and similar spots where you do not want to cut new threads.

You guys show me how old I am. Here's the Craftsman full set in its walnut box that the wife bought me for college graduation -- 45 years ago.

And older yet, here's the 1950s (I'll guess) Ace brand hardware store tap and die full display case I bought at auction a few years ago. These are NOS, and don't get used. But the Craftsman set sure does. Stu

Being a machinist,I can appreciate those old sets Truckdog!
I have an old Hanson set my father-inlaw gave me from the '70's.

I also have a super old set of Greenfield taps and dies in a wood box my grandfather me 30 years ago.

I have that exact set of tap and dies. It is made in China. I have used several of them now over the last six months. They have NOT held up well. The handles are nicer than the old Harbor Freight set that I have, but the taps seam to be softer.....
