B7A-8620-N .. Supercharger Belt -51.96" long = 1957 Ford.

B7S-8620-A .. Supercharger Belt -50.12" long = 1957 Thunderbird.

1542751 .. Supercharger Belt-Use with R2/R4 Jet Thrust engines = 1963/64 Studebaker Lark/Hawk.

This Studebaker part number is from the 1959/64 Studebaker Chassis Parts Catalog. I don't have a 1963/64 Studebaker Avanti Parts Catalog, so I dunno if the belt was the same.

The one on my Hawk ran, I believe, 7 lb boost. It came with a dual pulley. Never had any problem with belt slippage. I had heard of guys putting on a smaller pulley to spin it up faster for more boost. I even remember some of the guys going to the notched v-belts. Don't really know if it worked any better or not.
First time you spin one up,,, your eyes will try to bug out of your head and your heart feels like it will come out of your chest. Just think how much fun the guys at the track have... Especially for a young kid.
POWWWWWWWer.....
Heck, these days, everything is boosted.

The Mustang in my sig has a Novi2000 blower with a FMIC and all sorts of other goodies. It is pullied for 10psi at 6k RPM. It makes 440hp to the tire or so. I tell you what, sinful speeds come up fast! Boost is a wonderful thing!

An aquaintance of mine built a F-clone out of curiosity about the actual power they produce. He tried to be as faithful as possible to the original specs, and even reproduced some parts to make it happen. On the dyno it was in the area of 370hp. I think the motor was built by Mummert and that is what got his attention about Y-blocks, but don't quote me on that.

It is the red car, left lane from the camera's perspective. In this video, it happens to be racing against another F-code which is built and tuned for racing, over 500hp.

The white one idling in the pits:

If you have any interest in seeing these types of cars in action, make it to the Y-Block shootout in Columbus, OH on Labor day weekend. You can talk to the veterans and learn what it takes to make one of these go with or without a blower.
You can also talk to them on the Y-Blocksforever forum.

Cool. See you there! Bring the truck if you can. We need more trucks to show up. As long as no major problems pop up, I'll be making the 9 hour drive from Atlanta, racing, and driving back, so you have no excuses with only 4hrs

There will be a Y-Block gathering at the NMRA Super Nationals at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio June 11-14. I don't know if these guys will be there, but there should be some fast Ys. I won't be at that one.

Y-Blocks at Norwalk OH - in addition to Columbus

There are events in PA and IL, as well.

There any overnight camping spots where the Y blockers congregate befor/after the shootout? BBQ, games, contests, music, maybe an adult beverage, that kind of thing Charlie? That's what needs to happen!

Charlie do you ever go to the Monday night car shows at Summit Racing?

We come up from Macon a few times a year in the truck.

Tedster,
Some do camp out at the track. A lot of us stay at a Super 8. In the morning, there's not a whole lot of time to do anything, so most of us eat breakfast at the motel. So that's one congregation. We have personal chefs for lunch (some of the wives). Each night we eat at a local restaurant, and so far every restaurant since I've been going serves alcohol. After that, some hang out in the motel parking lot.

Shadow,
I haven't gone down only for the show but Sundays and Mondays are my day off, so if I need something last minute, or large or heavy enough that it is cheaper to pick up than ship, that's usually when I go. I could go some time.

My wife is a quilt-aholic so I am trading track time for quit store time. BTW I have enough stuff to cook outdoors for 150-200 people, and its if I don't bring my smoker. I need lots of people to eat out of my larger dutch ovens, (hence the name campchef) I will scope it out and see if it works and perhaps we can start a lunch tradition so the wives don't have to. truck body is tore apart and I am getting ready to pull engine so it wont make it, but if all goes well then this time next year it will be its first trip.

thanks for the heads up

That's the kind of trip I love to take. Im not sure my 64 is up to the task. The 292 is strong, but Im not so sure the FX tranny is.

Im afraid to even take it into a shop to see what a rebuild would run me.

Campchef,

The ones who cook like to do it but I'm sure something more professional would be welcome. Everyone chips in for the food, usually about $20 each for the weekend. There are usually 20-30 racers, so maybe 30 - 60 people, including friends and family.
I doubt they would want to pay what you might normally make as the whole point is to avoid having to pay for the expensive track food and drink. If it is something you want to consider, pm me with your email or phone number and I will have the guy who does most of the event preparation contact you.

Shadow,
You don't have to bring the truck. You can just go watch. I know you're kind of on the fence about keeping the Y block and concerned about their ability to make power. You could see anything from stock 239s to E and F Codes, to blown and turbo motors, to stroked all out racing Y's. When you see them in action going against "modern" big blocks and small blocks, keeping up and beating them in many cases, and are able to talk to these guys who have been doing it for decades, it might make that decision much easier.
It is an all Ford event, which is why you will see them racing big and small blocks, and the Y-Block shootout is a part of it.

I may try to go to the May 11 Ford night. I like going to the Ford themed shows and meeting people who don't even know what a Y block is and on rare occasion accuse me of putting a chevy in my truck - it can be fun to run with that one for a bit.
