Hello, new guy with a 75 (slow build thread)

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forums, I just bought a 75 F100 or 150 4x4 with a 360 or 390, if the seller can be counted in lol.

My DD is a V8 Trailblazer, and my gf drives an Escape, so we wanted something to run to the dump, home improvement store, yard sale, etc. We can barely fit two vehicles in our driveway so something has to sit in the street also.

I paid 600 for the truck, and I still need to get it towed home next weekend once the seller finds the title. It has the FE V8 backed by a C6 and the unicorn Ford NP203. The previous owner fiddled with the engine, its all painted up and appears to be registered, but no exhaust or ignition wiring. Also, it does have a cast iron 4bbl intake, so it may actually be a 390, who knows lol.

It's missing the radiator, the interior is partially dismantled, the front cab mounts are gone, the inner fenders are rotted where the hood hinge bolts up, and it has the goofy ram assist steering.

But all in all, I think it's a good truck, solid box, decent paint and doors. I'm excited to get started on it and see what you guys are doing with your trucks.

You know, I checked to make sure it was open knuckle, high pinion but didn't notice the brakes lol. Thanks for the welcome!

In all honesty, I bought it to ****** the axles out of, but I think it's too good for that.

I learned to drive in my dad's 72 F250, which he replaced with a 76, then a 78 lol. My own first vehicle was a 79 F150 4x4. I'm no expert, but it feels like home to sit in one.

I was going to put the axles in my Trailblazer, my gf is getting a new car this spring, and I could retire the Trailblazer from DD duty.

Welcome to FTE

1968/76 F100/250 4WD: Only available V8 was the 360 2V.

4th digit of the VIN is the engine code. A = 240 I-6 (thru 1974) / B = 300 I-6 / G = 302 2V (F100/150 only) / H = 390 2V / M = 390 4V (1974/76) / Y = 360 2V

On sale day, 360's magically become 390's!

1976: First year that disc brakes were available for F100/250 4WD's.

GARRISON Power Assist P/S: 1973/75 F100 4WD / 1975 F150 4WD // 1973 F250 4WD / 1974 F250 4WD before serial number T80,001.

Cool ol truck. it could be a 390 if the PO put one in or built the stock 360 up, heck i know i guy that has a 63 galaxie 352 3 speed 2v, but it is a 4v now( i gave him a cast iron 4bbl for it so a cast iron intake doesn't mean much) what are the numbers off the intake?

Awesome, thank you for the info! The seller claims he swapped the 360 with a 390, but they always do. I honestly don't care, as I appreciate the truck for what it is, and for something that will be driven on weekends, it will be fine either way.

As for the numbers on the intake, I don't have the truck home, as the seller is looking for a title and I'm looking for a trailer. I will get them as it never quite occurred to me it might be worth something, I simply intended to replace it with something more modern and lighter lol

I will be sure to check that against the Vin and everything. I think he bought it for the same reason as I did, but lacked the skill to part it, thank goodness. It's my gf's birthday so we took a trip up to Traverse City, but am heading back down tomorrow to make sure it rolls over and pay the man. Any other things I should look at before the deal is done?

As my gf says, I have trucks dancing in my head, so I may make a rash decision lol. BTW, I figured out its an Explorer, which explains the fancy options like an auto and 203 lol.

So I went out today, checked the Vin against the title, etc, etc, paid the man his 650 and went on my merry.

The motor turns freely, intake is an aluminum single plane, Streetmaster? Idk... Here's some pics!
