coolant dye tracer in a 6.0

Well my truck has apparently sprung a leak. I came out of work and had a pretty large wet spot wheel to wheel. Backed the truck up and got under it couldn't find any wetness. So i went home picked up some coolant because the degas was empty so it was from my truck for sure. Took it to work yesterday and put a pressure test on it. Found a very slight seeping from the thermostat housing. Took 25 min and no psi loss but you could see it start to seep. Replaced the thermostat as it was only holding borderline temps anyway. Get done and look under the truck and have a puddle UNDER the starter. Starter was wet trans lines wet. Heater hoses dry valley dry. Put the psi back on it and it would not leak. Only place i can see is the block heater has moisture around it. So to the question is the dye tracer made for coolant ok to put in the 6.0? That way I can trace it to the point if origin wiyh the uv light.

I would drain the system,, then pressurize and use a spray bottle with soapy water,,, that will find it. Gotta drain it tho,, if it's pushing coolant out of the seep,, it won't bubble.

Thx Anthony you just made a thought pop in my head the block drains are right up there as well. I did a drain flush and fill about 1500 miles ago as it was due. I wonder if the drain is leaking For some reason.

That was one of my first checks. It is less than two months old and was orange new one is blue. I drained put psi to it and looked around spaying for an hour. No leaks no bubbles. Of course it hasn't leaked since. Didn't leak at all from MI to NC and back. And does not leak all the time. In fact since i did the intake gaskets before the trip to NC I've put almost 2k on it with no coolant loss. This is the first coolant leak out had ever had. Unless the the leak from the thermostat got into the fan and blew it back or went across the cross nember. I'm at a loss. It held psi the entire time today and did not leak a drop overnight on the drive.

I also checked that as well i even manually cycled the arm on it to make sure. Both hot and cold not a drip completely dry. Thank you for the thought nothing seems wet above the block heater. Even there doesnt look fresh. How can something dump about a half gallon of coolant leave a wet starter and trans lines then not leak hot or cold vacuum or positive pressure. Unless it was spraying back while driving but you would think i would get a coolant smell.

So I'm back to the original? Will the dye hurt anything? I have to pull the TT this weekend. The thought since i can't find it was to put the dye in and check it over with the uv light everyday This week. Hopefully get sight of the offending part.

I have never had a uv dye cause any kind of a problem on any machine. Have at times even left it in after finding a leak or not no issues.

I have dye in mine right now and for the past 6 Mo.
When you had the block drains out did you replace the O-ring?
I had to thanks to the jack *** that rues the grey Ford RTV at
the dealership to seal them up when they did the heads. All
for the want of a silly O-ring. The one that was above the
starter was more flat tham round. So I put new ones on and
cleaned out the RTV. No leaks that I can find. That is the reason
for the dye. I do get a whiff of coolant every not and them.
But no drop in the degas level. The cap tested as good and
the system held pressure and vacuum.

I think we have a winner. Even tho it was just replaced by me brand new. I got under the truck today when i gold to work. With a flashlight I seem a drip run down the stream where the head meets the block. So either I have an externally leaking HG. Or the blue hose is leaking and running down the back of the engine. The strange thing is i have put over 1500 miles looking at my notes closer to 1900 miles on it without it leaking. Now i know that hose seals with an o ring. Can a clamp help at ago or am i getting another new one?

Try twisting it a little. When I put my top end back together I had
a little leak at the blue hose but only under vacuum. I gave it a little
but of a twist and that stopped it. Make sure that you don't have
any pressure in the system when you try this.

That collar can sometimes be tricky to seat correctly, putting an external clamp on the collar does nothing but distort the collar and useually makes it leak more.
Try turning it a little more like Yahiko suggested. Maybe even work it back and forth a little.

So I got the truck nice and hot bring it on the shop after work. Got my inspection mirror out and flashlight. Not a drop on the blue tube or the egr cooler pipe. Pressurized again nothing. So in went the dye.
