Timing chain Navigator
I need help to put the timing chain on my Navigator. I have 01 Navigator with DOHC.
Head has sent to a machine shop to check valve and replace the chain and tensioner. We put the head and torque it to specs. Set the timing (passenger side)right hand to 11 o'clock, (driver side) left cam to 12 o'clock and the crank at 6pm. Put the single marking of the chain at the crank and dual marking of the chain at the cam. Release the pin. Put the other chain, release the pin and i double check the marking. 11,12 and 6. in some reason when we rotate the the engine (by hand) it will go for about 240 degrees and stop and wont go anymore. We check the engine with the camera and all the piston is not heating any valve. Need help. Any ideas?? Thanks

It really depends on how the copper colored links line up with the timing dots on the sprockets. That's how to time it properly. You can be a few links off from where the timing dots are, but the only way to know is by finding those two "king links" in each chain. You may have to polish them with a rag in order to see the difference in color on the links.

Did you perhaps drop a small socket or bolt inside one of the cylinders before bolting the head down?

Wait! I think maybe you have it correct.
But the big thing is to count the side links.
The single colored link would be over the timing mark at 6 o'clock at the crank.
And the double colored link would be either side of the timing mark on the cams.
Did you verify the 30 side links per alloro's picture?
Also, double check that the secondary chain is timed correctly.

The chain is new so i can see the the difference. There's one black and two black at the other end if i fold it it match the length. I have a camera put in to check the piston and valve but there's none hitting. That's why i'm confused. I'll check the pdf that alero send me. Hoping that the guy from the machine shop put the timing wrong.
Ill send some pictures tomorrow. thanks

Can you determine the wire colors? That should help narrow it down.

Not sure how similar the harness and sensor configuration is between the DOHC and the 3V engine, but on my '05 3V the only connectors back there are knock sensors (X2, one on each side, 2-pin), the IMRC connector (4-pin) and CHT/Cylinder head temp sensor (2-pin, it also has an extender connected between the harness and the sensor itself). If it's more towards the outside, then we're starting to talk about coils and injectors, if you're sure all the injectors and coils are correctly connected, then we can rule those out of course.
