'72 F600 Restoration! Anyone have Info?
#16
Wow! Amazed at all the info and help! Best forum ever for info. The truck is and has been on our property for decades. Were mostly going to get it running mechanically and cosmetically fix it up, but not make it ready for a showroom anytime soon. Likely within $5k. We plan on turning it mostly into a land yacht. Long benches in the rear and likely bolt a skeet thrower to the back corner.
Heres the plan:
- Degrease motor. Soak it in a ton of Simple Green for about an hour and power wash the hell out of it.
- Learn exactly what an oil bath air cleaner with snorkel is and pick one up (Ive got an idea)
- R&R all fluids:
-Engine oil (After about 50-100 miles, R&R oil again and add Lucas stabilizer
-Tranny fluid
-Rear end diff
-Drain & flush coolant
-Brake fluid
- New spark plugs (wires if needed, I hope it doesnt need a new distributer, thatll be a pain)
- New air filter
- New Master Cylinder & hub check to see if the brake shoes are still good.
- R&R fuel with fresh gas
- Sand & paint truck in a modern OEM dark metallic green with tan vinyl logos on the door.
- Corrosion control
- New metal where it should be
- New used grill, letter(ing) and headlights
- Refurb interior
- Sand & paint cab floor and firewall
- Fix up door panels and restain if necessary
- Black automotive carpet
- Rubber all weather mat cut to fit entire floor of cab
- Dash replacement, gauge cluster refurb
- R&R or R exterior trim, door handles, mirrors, etc.
- New windshield (Doesn't look like safety glass to me)
- New tires (Looking to stick fit on the tallest skinny mud tires I can find and get away with) sort of old school mud tires preferably.
- Ditch "Widowmakers" for new wheels if I can find them cheap enough.
- I plan on disengaging use to the bed. We wont be using it as its working days are over and could be pose as a safety hazard with people in the back. It also may not be properly working and who knows the $ nightmare that might entail fixing up old HD hydraulic systems.
Did I miss anything?

Hey there,
It's been about 2 years since anyone has left any comments here. I was wondering how the progress was going on this truck. I just happened to stumble across this thread looking for something and thought I'd check on the progress. I'm just finishing up a 1978 F-600 myself and thought if anyone needed to know something I've learned about these trucks to feel free to contact me...of course, I've got to thank People like Numbers Dummy and others who have helped me immensely by leaving their comments to others I learned a lot here!!...Thank you to all!!
1978 F-600, 361FT engine, New Process 542 5 Speed w/ Eaton 2 speed rear end, 192WB, 23000 GVWR Flat/Stakebed, Dumper

I'll be waiting and looking for some pics...to cool! does this truck have the ramps built onto the frame?...saw a skip loader hauler like that where the loading ramps folded down, then the tractor went on top of the truck bed rails, then the loading ramps folded back up....

follow the supercab on an f600 build.. it details all the stuff on the 69 build up.. it will be awhile for the bed build as this is a frame off full restomod
