starts and runs but dies when stops?
Sorry for this but I have looked at all the info and still can't figure it out. First what it is doing is running and starting fine but coming to a stop it will die then start up idle and drive fine till you go to stop again. Oh it is a 1999 F250 Super Duty with a 5.4 with almost 200K on it. This is what we have done so far We (meaning me and my son who I gave it to when I bought my 06 250 diesel). First was clean the Mass Air Flow Sensor Nothing, then clean the Idle Air Control Nothing, cleaned the Throttle Body Nothing so then leaned toward the IAC to replace first Nothing. Put a Reader on the computer and the Mass Air Flow seems to be working fine. I am thinking of testing the Throttle Position Sensor next. But before we just start spending money aimlessly replacing parts besides the IAC I figured I would ask for some help! I'm stuck of course it couldn't be the consensus of just clean IAC or MAFS. Thanks for any help ya all can give us.

Out of all the very inelegant Ford people on here no one has some advise? I know there is good advise on here cause that is were I got the info to do what we have done so far. I hope someone has some thoughts on this issue or I think it will be time to spend the big money at the shop. Thanks if ya all have any thought!

I had a similar issue after I did a transmission flush/refill a few years ago on my 02. Turned out to simply be a quart and a half low on new trans fluid refill...causing torque converter to lock up at stops...stalling the engine. If your trans fluid shows on the lower range of the dipstick try adding to the "full" mark/line. Hope you get lucky with a SIMPLE fix also. Good luck.

No current or stored codes on the reader? How about vacuum leaks? They will cause low rpm stalling. Vac leaks have to be large to effect the fuel map and throw a sensor code but small ones can go undetected. Start hunting down vacuum leaks. Dont rule out the brake booster, PVC or the HVAC system. Hows the fuel economy? Have you "read" the plugs to see if they are lean? White=lean vs normal brown. If you run lean for a long time it will melt things, O2 sensors, spark plugs and eventually exhaust valves and cats.

No codes at all. I am going to have him change the fuel filter but while I was out looking at it for vacuum leaks I got in it and revved the motor up to 2000 rpm then stepped on it fast and it fell on it's face almost to the point of dyeing running very rough then let off and went back to idle. He didn't tell me about that and had him run it to test it out guess I should have got in it before to get all the symptoms. Do's that help any on what it might be?

K, changed fuel filter and now will not start. Shut the pump off with switch on passenger right floor board and ran truck till it died then changed the filter plugged the switch back in and now it won't start. Do's throw a code of P0122 Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit Low. No idea please have some help on this one?

Just an update on the situation. Well like a week before he broke the slip yoke off the driveshaft going down the highway. After taking the box off the truck cause the fuel gauge said it was full so thought that would be easier than dropping the tank. Well checking the fuel pump first the float was stuck up in the hose's so it was saying it was full and the pump was out of it's holder laying on it's side and the tank was almost empty. So when he hit the brakes fuel would rush forward and pump would suck air and die but slosh back and restart. So the driveshaft must have hit the tank and nocked the pump up out of the holder, put it all back the way it should be and runs great. At least all the sensors got cleaned. Thanks for all your help! Just ended up being a freak thing.

He let the Universal joints go to far and they broke and the drive shaft hitting the pavement broke off the end of the slip yoke. The tank is a plastic tank with a metal shield on it that has a good dent in it. Yes he got is butt kicked for not knowing his universal joints were going. I said you didn't hear it clunk putting it in drive or reverse and he said never thought about that. Sorry for leaving that out I would never have thought a driveshaft would have caused this but Yes that does show all the info you can give is important! Oh I didn't know it hit the tank till after it was all fixed and he got his a$$ chewed for going off road and going to fast to bounce the pump out. He denied doing anything like that then thinking about the driveshaft we looked under the tank and could see something hit it pretty good so came to the conclusion it was the driveshaft. Thanks again.
