Lift recommendations for a 2013 DRW

Seems I drag this thing all the time.

Was doing an oil change today and this is what I saw.

It is not so much the body but the driveline that is dragging.

You do a lot of driving through fields etc? I'd put a nice 2 1/2" to 4" lift on her and go one size bigger for tires. That's one thing about the new diesels, oil pan hangs right even with the axle tube and as soon as u get a little down in muddy soul it hits

Yeah, lots of trails and things.

Transfer case skid plate looks the same.

I am running the factory size tires so I was certainly planning on up sizing those.

Wonder if maybe upsizing the diameter of the tires with using the same rims would be good enough. I'd be happy with a couple inches.

Back in my days of extensive off-roading in my Bronco, I learned that the surest way to get your underside (particularly the differentials) farther from the ground is by increasing the diameter of the tires.

Larger wheels with smaller diameter tires like you often see don't cut it - I had 35" Buckshot Mudders on 15" rims (standard back in the day), no lift and drove pretty much wherever I wanted.

Ideally the purpose of a lift is simply to accommodate the taller tires, though I see plenty of lifted trucks with small tires .

Ideally I think I would just like a larger diameter tire, keeping the same rims.

I don't seem to have an issue with the body dragging.

But not so sure that I can get a taller tire size with the 17" rims and keeping the space between the rears.

Most tires get wider as they get taller. The Buckshots I ran had a different aspect ratio, P or Q I think, which allowed them to be taller but not wider. They cleared better than the 33x12.50 tires I originally had.

Try to find a shop specializing in truck tires to find the tallest ones you can put on a dually.

Good idea on the truck shop. We have one where I do my alignments at so I think I will see what they have. I guess I could always add a spacer between the tires but I'd rather not.

I plan on getting 275-65-20's for my dually when the time comes, of course this will mean new wheels but I know they will fit without a lift because that size tire is a factory option. I don't want to go the wider tire on factory wheels route because I am afraid of the duals rubbing, a bead popping with a heavy load like a 5ver, tire squirm, uneven tire wear or accelerated tire wear and some tire shops won't do it. There are tires that are taller and almost stock width, I'm running 255 85r16 tires on my F350. 33" tall and 10.8" wide I believe, they have the same in 17" and 18" wheels you just have to look, if not there are companies that sell wideners for duallies so the tears don't rub. But I'm still up for a nice 2-3" lift with one size up on tires, I see this a lot on Ford dually's and if I ever went with a dually id do that and leave it

Thanks for the info on your tires.

I will probably go that route with a lift in the future as a possibility too.

Nowadays it's auto manufactures listen to the majority of truck owners that use their trucks as soccer mom vehicles. Soften up the springs so it rides like a car but then you have to spend money to add airbags etc cuz YOU use your truck as a truck! 4wd is added just so u can back out of your driveway to drop the kids off at school, so there is no need to have the truck jacked up high from the factory, but again those of use who use our trucks get damage like your getting not from off-roading or rock crawling but just normal driving on u paved roads like a field or logging road! Then again your back to adding a lift and bigger tired to make your 60k truck a actual truck

It would be nice if Ford had options like that. An offroad package that really means something, maybe for duallies a 2 or 3 inch lift with one or two sizes up tire option, a winch, air bags, traction bars. I think they would sell a lot of these trucks but for now we have to do it ourselves.

In my area the local GM and Dodge dealers have brand new 1/2 3/4 and 1ton trucks lifted sitting on the lots. They just add the parts to the price of the trucks, yet none of the Ford dealers have vehicles like this......
