With the frame rotated back I reinstalled the Jag IFS. Lined up the front mounts and modified them for final installation. Because I wanted to retain the truck's original ride height, I blocked the rear mounts with 2" aluminum blocks. When leveling this of course required the front mounts to be longer that the normal install. This also required blocking the stabilizer bar mounts.

Did a little more work today getting the top of the frame cleaned up and painted as well as a F2/F3 crossmember. As I was getting ready to post this UPS showed up with the rear springs (I expected them tomorrow). Since I was back out there I went ahead and installed them. (pics of that another day).

F2/3 crossmember to replace original crossmember

It's looking good, Joe! You're moving right along! Did you go with completely stock rear springs?

I'm not sure if you're already aware or not, but the F2-F3 crossmember has a larger hole and bolt pattern for the master cylinder and pedal assembly. If you're keeping the stock pedal configuration, you'll probably need to scrounge up an F2-F6 pedal bracket. I figured mentioning it now might save you a headache later.

Yes, they are 'stock' springs. Regarding the Master cylinder, I'm planning to do a firewall mount M/C - booster - pedal assembly.

Looking good Joe. Keep up the good work.

It's amazing how time flies. I try to get out to the garage and get something done every day but it seems to take for ever.

You have accomplished a lot in a short time. Enjoy what you are doing - at least you can sit back and say "I did that myself". Like most of us on this site, I have learned so much over the past few years. So much help and advice from the members of FTE - feel proud of what you have accomplished.

Take care

Dan

Joe I like the front suspension brackets you made for the front of the suspension. You have 3 bolts holding them on, are you also welding them on or do you think the bolts will be strong enough? The whole project is looking very good! Keep up the good work and have fun

Dave, there are actually 5 3/8" grade 8 bolts holding each bracket in place, 3 through the side of the frame and two through the bottom.

Today I finished mounting the rear axle and shocks.

Once I had the rear end finished I decided to get the flathead ready to go on the frame.

Engine has been sitting in the corner on a stand for a while

Removed the intake

With intake off and valley covered, flywheel was removed

Front mounts secured to frame.

Joe,
You are making great progress. You are doing a couple of firsts that I have not previously seen, having a Jag/Flathead combination and installing the blocks to space the Jag away from the frame. I can't tell from your pictures however, it looks like you will be fine with the pinion location on the Jag and the exhaust on the flathead. With the "Z" joint at the pinion and your spacers I would think that the joint would swing in the channel space of the frame rail. You should be able to set up the steering with just one u joint in addition to the "Z". It will be interesting to see if you can also have the steering column shaft penetrate the floor board at the stock location. With the SBC I had to penetrate up and to the left of the stock location but within the rectangular opening in the floorboard.

Taking advantage of these rare 60° + February days...

3 speed crossmember removed, F3 4 speed crossmember ready to locate for transmission

Test fitting AOD to flathead

Adjusting crossmember to fit transmission mount

Rear of tranny needs to drop about 1", drilling crossmember and adding a couple of rubber cushions should make perfect height.

F1 3 speed crossmember ... any body need one?
